Hidden In Silence

A Hidden Treasure- please make available!!
Well, maybe no one will read this review, seeming as the movie is not even available at amazon, but I hope someone reads it and is inspired to watch the movie. It is truly a treat.

What would you do if you were only 16 or 17 and had no parents around to take care of you during the bloody days of WWII? What if the Gestapo came to your door demanding that you leave your home in one hour and find somewhere else to live? It would be a difficult demand.
Especially if you had 13 Jews hidden in your attic.

Hidden in Silence is the true story of Stephania Pordgorska, a Catholic Polish teenager who had to decide wether to sit back and let Hitler's soldiers "liquidate" the Jews in her city or wether to do something about it.
She did something about it. And saved 13 lives which included men, women, and children. As a historian, I may be tempted to look at that and say, what is 13 against 6 million who died? But that would be missing the point. The point is, Stephania (called Fusia...

A look at Love & Mercy: the goodness they possess & the "giving" they entail.
An intense recounting of a true story of how a brave teenage girl and her younger sister do "the heroic" for their Jewish friends and neighbors in a ghetto of Poland during the Nazi occupation. It is real, well done and well worth it!

From here, you might also take a look at The Only Way with Jane Seymour.

Justice & Compassion at it's Finest
I'd been waiting a long time to see this movie again - a true story. It's just as riveting now, as when I first saw it. Highly recommend it, no matter how many WWII movies you've seen. It's "justice and compassion at it's finest".

My Dear Desperado

Narrowly Places 1st as my favorite Korean movie
Korea has an amazing Cinema industry. Like the United States there's lots of fluffy boy-girl silly movies, some overly violent ones but there are real masterpieces, stories told beautifully. This is one of them.

I could have titled this review, "From Selfishness to Selflessness."

I believe the original title of this in Korea was "My Gangster Lover," which does not do any justice to the beautiful story told here.

I'm not going to go into many details -- just some of my impressions. Just know that what you're getting here is a beautifully told story.

Jeong Yu-mi and Park Jong-hoon are perfect for their roles. Dong-chol Oh (Park Jong-hoon) is a middle-aged gangster who finds little fulfillment in his life. Sae-Hin Han is a young woman of promise who, having grown up in the country, gets her first professional job in Seoul. Unfortunately the company goes bankrupt, her boyfriend leaves her for a job somewhere else and she's forced to find...

Give this little movie a try!
The title makes the movie seem like it would be quirky, but it really isn't. The development of the relationship between the two main characters is gradual & believable. I like how it is not written to be a perfect, man-meets-woman & they fall in love immediately cookie-cutter dialogue. It's just refreshing in its simplicity & reminds us that love is unexpected & imperfect. Give this film a try. You will like it.

serious film but not too much
i agree with all the other positive reviews. this movie is special. park joong-hoon (the gangster) gives a touching performance (his character's arc is well portrayed). actress is a natural beauty. loved the "looks" she makes...acting with her eyes. if you believe that a korean jopok (mafia) member could have a conscience in real life then it is not hard to believe this relationship could happen and root for the relationship to somehow be successful under impossible circumstances.

Naughty Gold Diggers

Soft Porn or Fun Social Commentary? Both!
Sure, this movie looks a little primitive by Hollywood standards; but overall it's more thought-provoking than similar films (if there are any) from the U.S., and the 'Naughty Gold Digger' Character is the most mysterious. Is she real or supernatural -- a naughty girl, or a malevolent spirit? What's she looking for -- if anything?! Why does the money so confuse the (male) protagonist? What is *he* looking for, after all, out of life?

If you don't mind subtitles, i recommend this peak into Japanese society [not Korean, my mistake -- was confusing it with 'Secret Love'], especially the "success"-driven youth. Don't watch it for the porn content alone, which (as seems typical of Asian cinema) shows little or nothing below the waist, but is otherwise fine.

Cute, sexy Japanese
These soft, sexy, funny films from Japan and Korea, aside from T &A scenes, have silly humor and hit accurately some modern social mores. Cute, easy on the eyes, nice to kill a couple hours.

Sexy actress
Some movies just last too long for the story they are telling. This is one of those movies that made me skip to the end.

The Doors: Live at the Bowl '68 [Blu-ray]

The Doors at the Hollywood Bowl, Classic Restored!
When The Doors were planning what to do for the Hollywood Bowl show in 1968 Ray Manzarek floated out the idea of coming out in Kabuki masks and Japanese robes. Alternatively, Jim Morrison, who was already showing the disillusionment of being a rock star, said "just give me my microphone, and do whatever you want to do." Maybe if Morrison had been more receptive to the idea and they had gone through with it, the costumes would have distracted them from giving one of the best concerts of their career, and it was filmed.

"Live at the Bowl `68" shows The Doors at the height of their musical prowess and their career. The summer before "Light My Fire" had made The Doors a nationally known act when it hit number one on Billboard's charts. Later in July of 1968 "Hello, I Love You" would do the same, and in September of 1968 they flew to Europe on what would become their one European tour. The Hollywood Bowl show was to be a celebration of The Doors and it was a hometown audience...

DVD review from an owner....WOW!
Now THIS is the way to release a classic concert....
1) you retrieve all the existing elements and songs
2) you get a modern crew to edit the footage and clean up the sound
3) you present it in brilliant widescreen!

AND... in the value for money department
bonus feature "Echoes Of the Bowl" on the history of the Hollywood Bowl and the Doors talking about playing there
bonus feature about the event itself from the participants not only the Doors but the Chambers Brothers who opened
another bonus feature "Reworking the Doors" talking about the technical achievement in fixing the old sound and video etc..
and BONUS performances from TV shows as well as a music video....

This is just a brilliant way to bring a treasure from the glorious 60's Rock Icons back to life in all the best ways... heck just the concert redone would have been enough but all the bonus features are something we used to only get for something like Gone With the...

Revisiting Rock History
If you're into classic rock, then who doesn't appreciate - if not love - The Doors and their contribution to the soundtrack of our youth? Their music is still burned into our minds and their live performances are the stuff of legend. To that point, The Doors supplied plenty of post-Independence Day fireworks on July 5, 1968 when the legendary quartet played the Hollywood Bowl, a concert that is considered to be the band's finest on film. For the first time, the film from the historic performance has been painstakingly restored using the original camera negatives and the audio has been remixed and mastered from original multi-tracks by the group's engineer Bruce Botnick. This new restoration offers a stunning visual upgrade from earlier versions and will give fans the closest experience to being there live alongside Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, who opined, "You can hear it as if you were at the Hollywood Bowl, on stage with us."

Call of the Devil

Fine with me
Ok, so yeah - it moved along slow. I found it confusing at points and I am never a fan of this in a flick. Not to dumb myself down but i do not watch a movie to put a puzzle together. I was getting characters confused at first and not sure who was exactly with who and to what end, but it all came together. Not much gore here so if you are looking for it (I was not) then move along. I guess you can call what is here implied gore. .There were some cool scenes in that regard that I won't forget anytime soon, so there is that. Job well done there.

As with any movies there were things that made no sense in the realm of reality, but this is a horror movie about a phonecall to the Devil, so its pointless to discuss wether or not something a character does makes any sense.

I would have given this 4 stars but I am deducting a star simply for the character Sakamoto's silly impression of Cupid the Angel of Love on the bridge. If you see this scene and the goofy...

I like it. :)
This movie is kind of really freaky. I would recommend you to watch it, if you dare. Be careful who you call.

Recycled plot. Takes forever to go anyplace.
First off a better name would be Call to the devil. This movie is very much a recycled version of Hell Girl anime. Students with psychological problems make video calls to the devil at midnight to the devil, make a wish, the wish will come true but the devil gets to use you for as long as the call lasts (which is as long as it takes for the wish to be fulfilled).
Teenagers make wishes, come to bad endings. This movie drags a lot. Slow to develop, resolve, and is very disjointed.
A few minor attempts at plot twists fail miserably. A few limited gore and suspense scenes fail to hold attention. And the Devil could have been more creatively used. (Wishmaster at least made the penalties interesting).
There are worse movies out there but I wouldn't recommend this movie unless you're having trouble sleeping.
