Hidden In Silence

A Hidden Treasure- please make available!!
Well, maybe no one will read this review, seeming as the movie is not even available at amazon, but I hope someone reads it and is inspired to watch the movie. It is truly a treat.

What would you do if you were only 16 or 17 and had no parents around to take care of you during the bloody days of WWII? What if the Gestapo came to your door demanding that you leave your home in one hour and find somewhere else to live? It would be a difficult demand.
Especially if you had 13 Jews hidden in your attic.

Hidden in Silence is the true story of Stephania Pordgorska, a Catholic Polish teenager who had to decide wether to sit back and let Hitler's soldiers "liquidate" the Jews in her city or wether to do something about it.
She did something about it. And saved 13 lives which included men, women, and children. As a historian, I may be tempted to look at that and say, what is 13 against 6 million who died? But that would be missing the point. The point is, Stephania (called Fusia...

A look at Love & Mercy: the goodness they possess & the "giving" they entail.
An intense recounting of a true story of how a brave teenage girl and her younger sister do "the heroic" for their Jewish friends and neighbors in a ghetto of Poland during the Nazi occupation. It is real, well done and well worth it!

From here, you might also take a look at The Only Way with Jane Seymour.

Justice & Compassion at it's Finest
I'd been waiting a long time to see this movie again - a true story. It's just as riveting now, as when I first saw it. Highly recommend it, no matter how many WWII movies you've seen. It's "justice and compassion at it's finest".

My Dear Desperado

Narrowly Places 1st as my favorite Korean movie
Korea has an amazing Cinema industry. Like the United States there's lots of fluffy boy-girl silly movies, some overly violent ones but there are real masterpieces, stories told beautifully. This is one of them.

I could have titled this review, "From Selfishness to Selflessness."

I believe the original title of this in Korea was "My Gangster Lover," which does not do any justice to the beautiful story told here.

I'm not going to go into many details -- just some of my impressions. Just know that what you're getting here is a beautifully told story.

Jeong Yu-mi and Park Jong-hoon are perfect for their roles. Dong-chol Oh (Park Jong-hoon) is a middle-aged gangster who finds little fulfillment in his life. Sae-Hin Han is a young woman of promise who, having grown up in the country, gets her first professional job in Seoul. Unfortunately the company goes bankrupt, her boyfriend leaves her for a job somewhere else and she's forced to find...

Give this little movie a try!
The title makes the movie seem like it would be quirky, but it really isn't. The development of the relationship between the two main characters is gradual & believable. I like how it is not written to be a perfect, man-meets-woman & they fall in love immediately cookie-cutter dialogue. It's just refreshing in its simplicity & reminds us that love is unexpected & imperfect. Give this film a try. You will like it.

serious film but not too much
i agree with all the other positive reviews. this movie is special. park joong-hoon (the gangster) gives a touching performance (his character's arc is well portrayed). actress is a natural beauty. loved the "looks" she makes...acting with her eyes. if you believe that a korean jopok (mafia) member could have a conscience in real life then it is not hard to believe this relationship could happen and root for the relationship to somehow be successful under impossible circumstances.

Naughty Gold Diggers

Soft Porn or Fun Social Commentary? Both!
Sure, this movie looks a little primitive by Hollywood standards; but overall it's more thought-provoking than similar films (if there are any) from the U.S., and the 'Naughty Gold Digger' Character is the most mysterious. Is she real or supernatural -- a naughty girl, or a malevolent spirit? What's she looking for -- if anything?! Why does the money so confuse the (male) protagonist? What is *he* looking for, after all, out of life?

If you don't mind subtitles, i recommend this peak into Japanese society [not Korean, my mistake -- was confusing it with 'Secret Love'], especially the "success"-driven youth. Don't watch it for the porn content alone, which (as seems typical of Asian cinema) shows little or nothing below the waist, but is otherwise fine.

Cute, sexy Japanese
These soft, sexy, funny films from Japan and Korea, aside from T &A scenes, have silly humor and hit accurately some modern social mores. Cute, easy on the eyes, nice to kill a couple hours.

Sexy actress
Some movies just last too long for the story they are telling. This is one of those movies that made me skip to the end.

The Doors: Live at the Bowl '68 [Blu-ray]

The Doors at the Hollywood Bowl, Classic Restored!
When The Doors were planning what to do for the Hollywood Bowl show in 1968 Ray Manzarek floated out the idea of coming out in Kabuki masks and Japanese robes. Alternatively, Jim Morrison, who was already showing the disillusionment of being a rock star, said "just give me my microphone, and do whatever you want to do." Maybe if Morrison had been more receptive to the idea and they had gone through with it, the costumes would have distracted them from giving one of the best concerts of their career, and it was filmed.

"Live at the Bowl `68" shows The Doors at the height of their musical prowess and their career. The summer before "Light My Fire" had made The Doors a nationally known act when it hit number one on Billboard's charts. Later in July of 1968 "Hello, I Love You" would do the same, and in September of 1968 they flew to Europe on what would become their one European tour. The Hollywood Bowl show was to be a celebration of The Doors and it was a hometown audience...

DVD review from an owner....WOW!
Now THIS is the way to release a classic concert....
1) you retrieve all the existing elements and songs
2) you get a modern crew to edit the footage and clean up the sound
3) you present it in brilliant widescreen!

AND... in the value for money department
bonus feature "Echoes Of the Bowl" on the history of the Hollywood Bowl and the Doors talking about playing there
bonus feature about the event itself from the participants not only the Doors but the Chambers Brothers who opened
another bonus feature "Reworking the Doors" talking about the technical achievement in fixing the old sound and video etc..
and BONUS performances from TV shows as well as a music video....

This is just a brilliant way to bring a treasure from the glorious 60's Rock Icons back to life in all the best ways... heck just the concert redone would have been enough but all the bonus features are something we used to only get for something like Gone With the...

Revisiting Rock History
If you're into classic rock, then who doesn't appreciate - if not love - The Doors and their contribution to the soundtrack of our youth? Their music is still burned into our minds and their live performances are the stuff of legend. To that point, The Doors supplied plenty of post-Independence Day fireworks on July 5, 1968 when the legendary quartet played the Hollywood Bowl, a concert that is considered to be the band's finest on film. For the first time, the film from the historic performance has been painstakingly restored using the original camera negatives and the audio has been remixed and mastered from original multi-tracks by the group's engineer Bruce Botnick. This new restoration offers a stunning visual upgrade from earlier versions and will give fans the closest experience to being there live alongside Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, who opined, "You can hear it as if you were at the Hollywood Bowl, on stage with us."

Call of the Devil

Fine with me
Ok, so yeah - it moved along slow. I found it confusing at points and I am never a fan of this in a flick. Not to dumb myself down but i do not watch a movie to put a puzzle together. I was getting characters confused at first and not sure who was exactly with who and to what end, but it all came together. Not much gore here so if you are looking for it (I was not) then move along. I guess you can call what is here implied gore. .There were some cool scenes in that regard that I won't forget anytime soon, so there is that. Job well done there.

As with any movies there were things that made no sense in the realm of reality, but this is a horror movie about a phonecall to the Devil, so its pointless to discuss wether or not something a character does makes any sense.

I would have given this 4 stars but I am deducting a star simply for the character Sakamoto's silly impression of Cupid the Angel of Love on the bridge. If you see this scene and the goofy...

I like it. :)
This movie is kind of really freaky. I would recommend you to watch it, if you dare. Be careful who you call.

Recycled plot. Takes forever to go anyplace.
First off a better name would be Call to the devil. This movie is very much a recycled version of Hell Girl anime. Students with psychological problems make video calls to the devil at midnight to the devil, make a wish, the wish will come true but the devil gets to use you for as long as the call lasts (which is as long as it takes for the wish to be fulfilled).
Teenagers make wishes, come to bad endings. This movie drags a lot. Slow to develop, resolve, and is very disjointed.
A few minor attempts at plot twists fail miserably. A few limited gore and suspense scenes fail to hold attention. And the Devil could have been more creatively used. (Wishmaster at least made the penalties interesting).
There are worse movies out there but I wouldn't recommend this movie unless you're having trouble sleeping.

Friend

An Excellent Story of Friendship, Loyalty, and Betrayal... (4.5/5)
Friend follows four friends, with different personalities, from childhood to adulthood, as their friendships are tested- and they are tested constantly. Friend is an excellent story of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal.

The story in Friend goes over a large time span, from the 70s to 90s. It shows the strength of their relationship, during their happiest moments and their roughest times, and the decisions they make and how they affect each other. Their bond is tested even further when two of the friends become rival gang bosses. Themes of loyalty and betrayal are evident. The ending of the film is also compelling. The movie really succeeds in making the audience question the definition of "Friend". The film blends drama, some action, and some comedy to make a balanced experience; the pacing is also smooth and consistent. The acting is superb from the entire cast. The music is also excellent- it fit perfectly in many scenes. There are a few ideas and concepts it throws in...

Classical Korean style drama
I am a Korean born in the U.S. I'm not used to Korean movies. But I've watched a handful and I enjoyed watching them. Most of the Korean movies I saw had Jang Dong Gun as the star- such as Friend. Korean movies are low budget in comparison to American movies. And they have a dramatization that may seem cheesy or overly romanticized. But, I get it. Koreans in Korea are more open than Americans, particularly when it comes to their "boys." So, the kinship that you in movies reflect the closeness that men have with each other, that feels different than the strong American men relationship that us Americans are accustomed to.
Anyways, I enjoyed the movie. I am Korean, so take that into consideration. I'd watch it again.

Perhaps the greatest Korean cinema. Includes deleted scenes.
There isn't a person in Korea over 13 who hasn't seen this movie. This movie, to say the least, is generally considered a classic and perhaps the greatest movie Korea has ever produced. But I would be short-changing this movie by saying it is a great Korean cinema, it is really a great cinema by any standards.

The characters really captures your emotions. The friendships between the main characters really start to matter. The movie takes about 30 minutes to hit its stride, but once it does, it is hard to stop watching, even after watching the same scenes repeatedly.

This is not a romantic movie. It isn't a comedy. It isn't about the modern Korea and its "gangnam style" culture. If you want to know what is hip in current Korea, you will be disappointed.

To understand the complexity of this movie, it really helps to have some understanding of the Korean culture and how it has evolved since the 1970's.

There are lot of deletes scenes in the...

Oath of Vengeance

Fuzzy Sets Up Shop
This is a review for OATH OF VENGEANCE (1944) a "B"western release by PRC and directed by Sam Nuefield.

The story concerns the outlaw problems that both local ranchers and farmers are experiencing in a wave of trouble that unknown to them is being orchestrated by businessman Steve Kinney, played by Jack Ingram, and his henchmen.

Brand new shopkeeper Fuzzy Q. Jones, played by Al St. John, afraid of losing the outstanding accounts on his books due to the impending range war, gets his pal, Billy Carson, played by Buster Crabbe, to join him in proving who's behind the ruckus. With Mady Lawrence, Charles King, Kermit Maynard, Marin Sairs, Karl Hackett.

OATH OF VENGEANCE is a very entertaining "B"western with some pretty funny comic bits contributed by Al St. John, who plays Fuzzy Q. Jones. I rate it a Four Star "B" movie.

Romance of the West

Romance of the West
"Romance of the West" was made in 1946 and is a slightly better than average
B-Western with the added bonus of Cinecolor. The movie contains a generous
supply of songs, action, fist fights, shooting, romancing and the star Eddie Dean
has a fine singing voice. The songs include the well known "Lovesong of the
Waterfall" (made popular by Slim Whitman), "Indian Dawn" and "Ridin' the
Trail to Dreamland". It is interesting to note that all the songs have an
orchestral musical backing and not guitar as in most singing cowboy films, which
is a welcome variation to a well worn theme.

For a change, the Indians are portrayed as a friendly and peace loving people
who love their land.

The story is about the white man's greed for money and the fact that they want
ownership of Indian lands because it contains extensive silver deposits, so they
hire a band of outlaws to create trouble and drive the Indians out. Eddie...

Video Quality is reasonable,no where near great but watchable.
Its also in Cinecolor .

Coyotes

A Rare Film - Tender and Moving
This is a very special film. It touches the heart without being maudlin or sappy. Produced in a simple, straight-forward style, "Coyotes" is nonetheless extremely effective. There is no need for bells and whistles; character depth effectively conveys the heartfelt and sometimes bittersweet love between a father and daughter. As the story shows, there is a time when we all have to accept our parents (or other loved ones) for what they are and let go of our childhood ideals of how they should be. The fact that this not only doesn't erode the affection between the two comes through clear as a bell. Indeed, sometimes, if we're lucky, the love only grows deeper.

Nice Little Movie
This is not the kind of movie I usually watch because it has no major stars or big action, but my daughter bought it, and our whole family loved it. Good story, subtle acting, interesting views of southwest.

A sentimental journey
This sensitive, coming-of-age story weaves its magic slowly but the emotions are real, the characters are true to life, and the story is as current as today's border patrol vigilante headlines. This small movie revisits the same emotional territory first tread by "Paper Moon" a generation ago. It is the kind of movie that Hollywood doesn't make anymore, namely an unconventional, off-beat story about the adventures and bond between a father and his teenage daughter and their struggle to survive as a family unit. Highly recommended.

Navajo Kid

Bob Steele a little downhill.
The print is all right, not crisp though. I saw this film as a child, what great fun to see it again. This one is from the fourties and not as good and convincing as the Bob Steele films from the thirties but it is all right, Bob Steele has great authority as usual, and oh what a voice. And many of the loveable b-western mainstay caracters are of course represented.

Wonderful story!
If you love the old westerns and you are a fan of Bob Steele; you will enjoy this movie. One of my favorites!

Thunder Town

The best of the Kart.
Video Kart came out with 4-double feature/discs featuring the Eddie Dean, Bob Steele, and Lash LaRue B Westerns. All are good but this is the best of the group - not so much as to the selection but more so as to picture quality, especially Driftin'River. The other black and white features had very intense contrast- so that the night and dark scenes were essentially black and white with hardly any shades of grey in between, which makes it difficult to appreciate the finer details. But this is not so with Driftin River which somehow come off well. The Bob Steele feature- Thundertown was also much better than the previous two releases by Video Kart. The features appear to have been cleaned-up versions of the originals but not actually full blown restorations. These are better than some of those B westerns transferred to DVD but were merely copied from the VHS EP versions. Let's hope Video Kart comes out with more of these westerns - especially those Cinecolor team-ups of Eddie Dean and...

singing cowboy film
Eddie Dean had a far better singing voice than most of the Singing Cowboy stars but they gave him rather poor movies to be featured in, for younger audiences than Roy Rogers or Gene Autry. Scripts were really weak and I just don't think Eddie Dean good as Star and Hero, not luike Roy, Gene, Tex or Rex. This film is ok but not much more.

two good 1934 westerns
The pattern of children being a main part of the plot in
both these movies plays to the fact that "B" western like these

The sound on the second movie was pretty bad on the tape I saw.
Cattle rustling at night is a pretty stupid plot element
in that movie ( something like the 10 shot six shooter sometimes seen in this era movie
or the lead slinging shooting style no sane cowboy would use).

Railroaded

5 classic NOIRS from the studio vaults
Wow! Great deal! These films retail for $29.95 each. This collection includes great titles from great directors (Fritz Lang, Anthony Mann) and they star some of Hollywood's all time greats like Joan Crawford, Henry Fonda, Jack Palance and many more. Here's a little description for each film:

SUDDEN FEAR (1952) - STARRING JOAN CRAWFORD, JACK PALANCE & GLORIA GRAHAME - DIRECTED BY DAVID MILLER - NOMINATED FOR 4 ACADEMY AWARDS - SYNOPSIS: Joan Crawford turns in one of the most emotionally charged performances of her career as a playwright who must use her plotting skills to save her own life, in this beautifully crafted film noir thriller. On a train headed home to California, Myra Hudson (Crawford) falls in love with, and marries, actor Lester Blaine (Jack Palance) whom she has just fired from her most recent New York play. Back on her San Francisco estate, something evil appears to be lurking just beneath the surface of the couple's idyllic life. Enter Gloria Grahame as...

Tight, sharp, taut--classic film noir
The short (73 minutes) of this film is not a problem at all; Anthony Mann's direction is so strong that there's no wasted moment. While some films noir suffer from being overly stiff (cf. The Big Combo), this one's fluidity is definitely in evidence. John Ireland is the standout here, but the two female leads--Sheila Ryan and Jane Randolph--are almost as good. A real plus, plotwise, is the 'good girl' falling (at least temporarily) for the bad guy.

Similarly, the 'bad girl' ultimately turns good. These reversals, coupled with the bad guy's peculiar behavior (the infamous perfuming of his bullets) and an unusual shoot-out in a long-after-closing bar full of upside-down barstools make for an interesting film.

Hugh Beaumont's good guy cop is a well-matched foil to John Ireland's Duke Martin, whose occasionally drunk girlfriend meets with Beaumont, near the end, to rat out what she thinks is her two-timing boyfriend.

Definitely one of the better films noir on DVD.

A GREAT MOVIE
John Ireland is sensational in this movie, as always. He is one of the best actors ever, and it is sad he is not remembered that way. RAILROADED and RAW DEAL are both wonderful showcases for his talent. I reccommend any movie with John Ireland in it.

At first, it's just a mannequin w/ a red wig. The painter fixes the broken parts of its face, paints features on it, and starts talking to it... a lot! We get the impression that this guy is either extremely lonely, or has slipped several gears! Perhaps both. Soon, through some magic, or mental illness, the mannequin becomes a living woman. At first, she's mute, and waits all day for him to return home for dinner and champagne. Then, she begins talking, and we see that she's transformed into Erica Blanc (THE DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE)! She's also become quite demanding, and insists that he paint her naked. Alas, now the woman starts to feel a little lonely herself, and decides to share herself w/ other men. The Cup

A remarkable Australian story
"The Cup" is a biographical film with a narrative that follows Australian jockey Damien Oliver and the 2002 Melbourne Cup.

It is a story that contains many layers including: the strong bond between West Australian brothers Jason and Damien Oliver, the prestige and tradition of the Melbourne Cup, the 2002 Bali Bombing, and overcoming grief.

The movie is compact and transpires at a steady pace, which allows the viewer to experience the different moods of the narrative in well timed portions.

The viewer is treated to a quality cast and this film was esteemed Australian actor Bill Hunter's final work. Tom Burlinson who starred in both "The Man from Snowy River" films and "Phar Lap: Heart of a Nation" appears in a supporting role. Irish actor Brendan Gleeson provides a strong screen presence and Stephen Curry and Daniel MacPherson are energetic and poignant.

It is a story that wonderfully captures the Australian spirit and persona...

Great Movie
This movie is a MUST SEE. The movie keeps your attention all the way through and is a movie that can be watched by the entire family.

A Thoroughly Enjoyable Movie

Female Vampire

Wow
That Jess Franco sure was wacky. This ultra-sexy 70's vamp flick probably arouses me more than any modern softcore film, but it's still not as good as Vampire Femmes or Vampyres. The woman here isn't really a vampire in the monster sense of the word. She's more of an energy sucker, kills by sucking sexual energy from her victims. The bad acting will get on some's nerves, and the plot is ludicrous, but if you buy this film to begin with, you can't expect Citizen Kane. A good b-movie sexfest.

Moody Ethereal Horror From Franco
The new IMAGE DVD of Jess Franco's "Female Vampire" is a welcome addition to any Francophile or euro-horror fan's collection. The movie reeks with an ethereal mood and pace and the euro-lounge theme music (played through about 90% of the flick!) is catchy and will haunt you long afterwards. Irina the lonely vampire goes from one victim to the next --- that's about it for story --- but who cares! This is Franco at his best! Be forewarned --- this is definitely a Very Mature movie so keep the young ones away! Released in a few different versions over the years, this 101 minute version is closest to "The Loves of Irina" version once released on VHS by Private Screenings. Alternate scenes from the "Erotikill" version are included as a supplement (app. 8 minutes) and basically include all the attack scenes which show Irina drinking blood. For some reason, the alternate scenes are not in chronological order. The movie is letterboxed at...

BAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF!
It never fails that every time I experience this film, and I've seen it now about three times in the past year, it produces a vastly different reaction each time I view it. I bounce from absolute admiration for Franco's directorial style, dreamy camerawork and musical score, and committed performances from the cast, to thinking that this is nothing but a cheap, porno-wanna-be-flick with absolutely nothing to do with "vampires", and no artistic integrity whatsoever. Fortunately, the positive vibes win out over the negative and I, once again, admire this film and all that is right and wrong with it. If I fail to make sense, well good then, because neither does this flick. Ms. Romay is, to say the least, totally uninhibited as she romps about the beautifully filmed outdoor scenes while a Chopin-like score lusciously underscores her every movement. Her scenes with the bed posts are, er...., quite a moment in the Euro-Erotic field, and the way she swishes and moves about on her bed...

The Hangover Part II

I thought it was pretty funny
Yes, it is the EXACT same plot in almost every single way. This film is just another excuse for them, to continue the magic of first Hangover's success. Don't expect it to BLOW your mind with hilarity. But it definitely has its moments. Some very dumb moments too (Useless use of a helicopter, too.) But, I think its worth buying.

Glad I saw it. Good comedy, just not as good as the first.
If you liked the first one, then you will probably like this sequel. Same premise, same type of humor, and same wackiness.

One of the funnier movies this year.

LOL - I find it funny that all these reviewers are giving it 1 star because they are getting the UV Digital Copy along with the Blu Ray or DVD. That is really skewing the reviews for this. Doesn't make sense to me. Are you reviewing the movie, the Blu Ray, or just the UV digital copy? If "just the UV", are you giving the entire product package a fair review? Matter of fact, have most of you one-star reviewers even seen the movie? You definitely haven't seen the blu ray since most of your reviews are dated before the release.

Anyways, please ignore all the 1 star reviews related to the UV copy. IMO, these reviewers are not using the rating system appropriately. I understand they want to make a statement because they dislike the UV copies.

"Is that a Shiitake Mushroom?"
First off I have to say that when I watched the first Hangover in the theater I wasn't super impressed with it. Everyone was saying it was super hilarious, but I found it only mildly funny in a large auditorium with ~200 other people. When I rewatched it at home with just a few people it was infinitely better. This Part II however was completely hilarious in the theater and again at home. I found myself walking away trying to figure out how this movie made it into the public without an NC-17 rating. I suppose they are becoming more liberal with the rating boards. There are too many funny moments to pick just one. Needless to say this is a must see for fans of the first one, but at the same time some of the more light hearted folks may want to pass it up. Definitely not for anyone up 18.

Quick

(3.5 stars) "Quick" is a popcorn action/comedy film with a slick presentation and really cool stuntwork and visual effects.
From JK Films, makers of popcorn action films such as "Tidal Wave" and "Sector 7″ are back again with the 2011 South Korean action comedy titled "Quick".

Directed by Beom-gu Cho ("Bar Legend") and written by Soo-jin Park, the film would star actor Min-ki Lee ("Romantic Island", "Oishii Man"), actress Ye-won Kang ("Tidal Wave", "Hello Ghost") and actor In-kwon Kim ("Tidal Wave", "My Wife is a Gangster 2″).

The film did well in South Korea and was released in the U.S. via Blu-ray and DVD courtesy of Shout! Factory and CJ Entertainment in Sept. 2012.

VIDEO:

"Quick" is presented in 1080p High Definition (Anamorphic Widescreen). If there is one thing I an say about "Quick" is that the film looks beautiful, stylish and slick! Featuring warm to cool colors, there is a good amount of tweaking to the overall video to showcase colors. Where skintones look very sharp, black levels are nice and deep and for the most part, everything looks...

Yes
This film is awesome. Wait till you find out who the bad guy really is in this movie. The action sequences chases are incredible to watch.

Shut off your brain, this one's all about the action and comedy ... and it WORKS BEAUTIFULLY
South Korea has produced some of my favorite films - and QUICK is no exception. If you turn down watching some of these films, even this one, due to subtitles or the film being foreign, you're seriously missing out. 'Quick' in particular is so much fun, a pure adrenaline ride that will also make you laugh; it's the perfect blend of action, mixed with comedy in all the right places.

Han Gi-soo is a former motorcycle gang member who now works as a bike messenger on his BMW bike, who one day delivers a small package to an office ... and, moments later, barely escapes with his life when that very office is blown to bits via a bomb. The Evil Dead

Widescreen & Full-screen
This is one of the greatest horror films ever made. Some people may find the special effects work primitive by todays standards, but for a low-budget film as this is they are excellent and charged with a weirdly supernatural energy; something one never sees today in the big production horror films.

However, this review is mainly going to be about the picture format. Evil Dead was filmed in 16mm, which is a full-screen format, not widescreen.
BEWARE of the so called "widescreen" versions: Book of the Dead Limited Edition, and the other editions from Anchor Bay. Nothing has been added to sides of the picture to make it wider; instead the top and bottom of the film have been cut away to make it look like a modern theatre film. Instead of more, you actually gett less. In some parts of the movie this makes an important differance; in the close-ups of faces, parts like the chins are now gone (...); other important details also disappear, like when the trap-door in the floor opens and...

Not Yet a Fan of This Cult Flick? "Join Us!"
Even though it's been more than 20 years since its original release, 1982's THE EVIL DEAD is still an impressive marvel of low-budget filmmaking. It does have its palpable flaws, but this first feature-length directorial effort from SPIDERMAN's (2002) Sam Raimi, produced on a shoestring budget of circa $350,000, offers clever special FX, interesting make-up work, relentless shocks, and brilliant direction and camera work. And of considerable note to genre fans, it highlights Raimi's knack for pushing violence and gore to such an extreme that it becomes comic or farcical, a characteristic that is enhanced by the slapstick talents of actor Bruce Campbell (who would himself become a cult hero due to his work in this and other Raimi films).

The story involves a group of college students who, during a weekend getaway, find a Sumerian Book of the Dead in an old wilderness cabin they've rented. When they unwittingly unleash evil spirits and demons while reading incantations...

Join Us! Join Us in Blu-Ray!
A couple of months ago it was announced that Evil Dead was coming out on Blu-Ray. I confess that I was not very excited due to the fact that I had a copy of the HDTV broadcast of Evil Dead and didn't expect much of an improvement. Yet I decided to pick up a copy at my local DVD shop. With little excitement, I nonchalantly put the disc in my Blu-Ray player and sat back. Unlike some other Blu-Rays, this one had didn't have to take time loading and immediately went to previews of horror movies. I skipped through these and went to the menu. When the menu started playing, my spirits immediately were uplifted. The menu had the same music as the one in the Ultimate Edition over a nice collection of suspenseful moments in the film with a sepia filter over them. I decided to watch the full screen version.
The moment the movie started I was shocked. The once blurry and pink Renaissance logo and Evil Dead title were now sharp red. I was intrigued. As the movie proceeded, I was thoroughly...

Kurt & Courtney

Courtney smearing campaign
This movie had very little to do with Kurt. It was mostly about dragging Courtney's name through the mud. I'm not Team Love by any means, but this is absolutely NOT unbiased journalism. If you have seen this or are about to see this movie, I would encourage you to check out some of Courtney's more recent interviews before letting this slanted film form your opinion for you. I'm left a bit unsatisfied on what I thought would be a documentary vice the smear campaign it turned out to be.

Who killed Kurt Cobain?
One of the biggest conspiracy theories in rock'n'roll involves the death of Kurt Cobain. Was it really suicide, or did someone murder him?

And from this we get "Kurt and Courtney," Nick Broomfield's now-legendary documentary that explores the life of Kurt Cobain, his relationship with his wife Courtney Love, and the question of whether he was murdered. There's a lot of good material floating around, but the heavy slant throws the whole film off-balance.

First, Broomfield interviews many people who knew Cobain during his younger years -- his teacher, his first love, and an aunt of Cobain's. His hometown, loves, artistic leanings and rough upbringing are examined in detail. But after examining his life in Nirvana and his relationship with rocker Courtney Love, Broomfield begins examining the question: did Love kill him, or did he really commit suicide?

He interviews Hank Harrison (Love's father), a PI crusading to have Cobain's case reopened, a creepy...

1 Hr and 35 Minutes of Pure Drivel. Don't Waste Your Time!
This documentary contains nothing but ill-focused and unorganized filler from mostly unwilling and misinformed participants. The most insightful information is presented through interviews with Kurt Cobain's aunt Mary, his former live-in girlfriend Tracy Marander, his friend and former drug buddy Dylan Carlson (the inspiration for their song "In Bloom"), and brief past interviews with Cobain himself. The purpose of Broomfield's documentary is muddled, as he claimed to want to tell the story of Kurt and Courtney and appeared to be in a neutral position, but ended up giving camera time to anyone and everyone who had a negative word to say against Courtney Love. A former, obviously bitter boyfriend; shock rocker El Duce, Courtney's estranged father Hank Harrison, and private investigator Tom Grant--all of whom never even met Kurt in person--were treated as experts. The most wasteful testimony came from a young woman who claimed to know Kurt and Courtney very well through a mutual...

Secret Of The Wings (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Amazing Movie for the Whole Family
About halfway through this movie I looked over my 8 year old daughter, and almost 12 year old son, to my husband and said, "I can't believe I'm getting goosebumps from a Tinker Bell movie."

Yes. Goosebumps.

My daughter and I have watched all the Tinker Bell movies in the franchise, and have even watched the specials on the Disney channel. I have to say that we've loved all the movies, but I think Secret of the Wings is now my favorite.

I won't bore you with the synopsis, as you can read it above, but I will tell you about what we liked,

-New characters!! Not only do we get to see all the favorites, we get lots of brand new characters as well, including Periwinkle (of course), Dewey (the Keeper), Lord Milori (voiced by Timothy Dalton! Yes!), and a host of new friends from the Winter Woods.

-No bad guys. I realized when I was watching this that there are no bad guys in a Tinker Bell movie! There are bad things that happen (and an...

A wonderful movie with a moment of personal sacrifice by Tinkerbell
I saw this movie with my new children on September 2012 at El Capitan in Los Angeles (a special showing). My three year-old daughter and my five year-old son sat there mesmerized for the duration of the whole movie. This movie has a beautiful story-line and wonderful execution. If Disney had touched up the scenery ("background") a little more, it could have easily been ready for theaters. Even as is, the winter scenery is well done. I actually think this movie might be my favorite of the four tinkerbell movies (and I have watched each of them several times with my kids).
The story includes a beautiful moment of personal sacrifice by Tinkerbell. She "gives up" something she values greatly to save those she loves (I cannot reveal details without spoiler alert). What a wonderful lesson for young ones! I would recommend this highly to any parent with a young son or daughter.

Another magical Tinker Bell adventure
I have to admit that Disney's Tinker bell movies have become something of a guilty pleasure for me. I say "guilty pleasure" because I'm a 41 year old male - hardly Disney's target audience for the Tinker Bell movies! What's more, I can't even use the "I watched this with my kids" excuse cos I don't have any!! But I believe these movies can be enjoyed by people of any age - male or female! I watched Secret of the Wings last night and thoroughly enjoyed it, and it's easily as good as the other 3 movies, possibly the best yet. My favourite so far was TB and The Lost Treasure, but this could easily surpass that after further viewings. It's wintry setting with all the snow and ice really give the film an enchanting, magical feel. I watched this on Blu-ray (2D) and the picture quality - as expected from Disney - is amazing. The winter setting with it's icy whites and cool blues really look great. This film really deserves to be seen in HD. All of the animation is top notch too - everything...

The Smurfs and the Magic Flute

Enjoyable Movie, but this is the UK Dub and Characters' Names Have Been Changed!
The Smurfs and the Magic Flute was directed by the Smurfs creator Peyo and was released to theaters in 1976 in Belgium, and 1979 in the United Kingdom. In 1981, NBC aired The Smurfs from Hanna-Barbera and it was an instant success. An English dubbed version of The Smurfs and the Magic Flute came out to theaters in the USA in 1983. Despite being disliked by critics, the move was a box-office success. Over the years it has been only available on VHS, but never on DVD, until now.

The movie centers on a young squire, Johan, and his goofy sidekick, Peewit, (Peyo created the characters in 1952 and then created the Smurfs in 1958). Peewit gets a hold of a flute that has only six holes. Whoever is playing the flute can control other people by making them dance.

A stranger, Matthew McCreep, steels the flute from Peewit and uses the flute to rob people. The King sends Johan and Peewit to retrieve the flute or their kingdom may fall. They fail at their first attempt to get...

Smurfs
Certainly worth a look for any Smurffan, or animation buff. Catchy little story line, okay animation, but what do you want from 1983? Although I was upset that Gargamel and Azreial were not in it. Watch it! Why not? It's only 75 mins.

Smurfs and magic Flute
I first saw this video when i was about 7 years old, and have been trying to find it ever since, even though I am now 23!!.. this is definatly the best smurfs video ever, and the songs are sooo catchy!! i could watch this over and over again and not get bored, it is just great!

The Devil's Carnival [HD]

I did not expect to like this so much...
I discovered this movie on Netflix when I was looking for something in Horror that I hadn't already watched. I watched it not knowing anything about it other than the blurb, which didn't make it sound all that great, but I have a soft spot for lame horror movies so I figured I'd give it a shot. I had never heard of Repo! The Genetic Opera until I looked this movie up to see if there were more like it. I was completely unprepared for how cool this turned out to be and how much I was going to love it. I immediately bought the sound track because I couldn't get the songs out of my head, and then I bought the digital copy here, and then I ordered the fancy super "Ringmaster" special edition from the creators' website because I really want to support them making more episodes.

It's a crazy, burlesque, dark carnival musical and it's just awesome. It is just the first episode of a longer work--and hopefully more *will* be coming--so it is short (less than an hour) and it ends in a...

TDC Breaks Expectations
For fans of Repo! The Genetic Opera. This show will peek your interests all over again, of our unfairly amazing friends Terrance and Darren. The shows content is of course; as subjective as a movie can be where our heroines are in hell and being subjected to a tormented existence of their life's actions following them to hell. But it's all done to a catchy tune that blazes your greed for the second episode. Yep, this is only the beginning.

The Devil is in the details....
I do not write many reviews and if I'm right, this is the first movie review. This movie is not for the shallow. It's beyond deep in many ways. The talent is incredible. There will be some faces you recognize and a few new ones for some people. Pay close attention or you may miss something. So many stories. Some have razors, some have keys...

The rocky Horror Picture Show had a message and drew a lions share of attention for many years. The Devils Carnival has many, if you stay alert! The fact that there are only a handful of reviews is sad. I can only imagine that there are many fans of this movie who just don't write reviews. I bought the movie on a whim. I bought the soundtrack the next day. The Devil's Carnival

What I want to know is... where is that list of rules?

Well worth the time and money. Also highly recommended would be...

Chemistry Incomplete
I've been a fan of Leon's music growing up and have become Janice Vidal's fan after her debut. I had some hope for this movie but it failed to come totally together for me. Amazing thing is, I had no expectation from Aarif and Janice Man and I was quite impressed with their performance and chemistry. For Leon and Janice Vidal, I feel they have treated this movie more like a side project and their acting was terrible making the movie unbelievable and fell apart for me.

The movie had a very strong artsy/sci-fi Hollywood attempt that definitely held my interest. The narrative Janice Vidal started out with was quite strong (thus my expectations bar was quite high for her performance from the beginning.) I was able to make an early connection with her character but that connection immediately ended after Monica woke up and went on a hunt for her baby's daddy. In the flashbacks, we can see Aarif and Janice Man's relationship blossom from the beginning and that was definitely very...

Very touching movie with an all start cast from Leon Lai's music company
This is a very touching love story where a father (Ti Lung) freezes her daughter, Gigi (Janice Man) to preserve her life after an accident. Many years later, her daughter, Wing (Janice Vidal) stumbles upon the secret and accidentally unfreezes her. They find Wing's father (Leon Lai) who's practically given up in life after Gigi's accident. Prior to the accident, Wing's father promised to take her to Leslie's final concert which never happens. To fulfill that promise, Wing's father (along with his band friends) puts on a final performance.

Two of the most memorable scenes was (1) when Leon dances to Michael Jackson's "Beat It" and (2) towards the end when Leon sing Leslie Cheung's song "Monica"

In this movie, the cast consist of quite a few members from Leon's music company, including Janice Man, Janice Vidal and Aarif Lee. Surprisingly Janice Vidal's role was more of a supporting role, while Leon and Janice Man were the main characters, yet the movie cover would...

Too silly
This story was a bit silly for me as I'd expected true sic-fi but got comedy in it's place. Also the story line and the costumes seemed too contrived.

Magic Mike

Love love love me some Channing Tatum...and the dancing gets 10 stars, but...
This movie is AWFUL. Seriously, just bad. I saw it in the theater AND I pre-ordered the DVD/BluRay/Ultraviolet combo. So why would I want to own a movie I already knew was bad? Can you say Channing Tatum bumping and grinding on the dance floor? Channing Tatum is at his luscious best in this film as far as his dancing and body, but it's like he totally forgot how to act at all (not that he was Oscar material before this anyway). The dancing in this movie is excellent and SO.HOT. and Matthew McConaughey is awesome when he's used for comic relief (when it gets serious even the great McConaughey is pretty bad). The plot and even most of the acting in this movie is just downright pitiful.

Would I own the movie? YEP, I DO. Would I watch the movie more than once? Yep, I have. Would I say it's cinematic magic worthy of an Oscar? NO WAY. Do I recommend this movie to pretty much all women who might kind of like the look of Channing Tatum? Absolutely. Do I recommend this...

Eye Charms galore
I first saw this movie trailer when I saw Haywire. I did not really know who Channing Tatum was(dumb me), let alone he was in Haywire. I thought a male stripper movie. I have seen my share of male strippers and if it was going to be like watching the Chippendales, I thought how boring. Well it came out and it was going strong at the theater in July so what the hell, I went and saw it. All I can say is WOW it was raining men and and hot bods and man candy. Definitely not boring. Channing Tatum can definitely move and the dance in the red thong is Oh My God. We women finally get something decent to look at, after all the years of enduring movies where chicks get naked and the guys are drooling. So the guys get to suck it up. Seeing Channing Tatum's naked rear-end and just about everything else, makes your mouth drop open. He is drop dead gorgeous and sexy as hell and the rest are not bad on the eyes either. Joe Mangianello from True Blood is holy crap hot too. It was a pretty decent...

Does Not Explain that regular DVD Version Does Not Have Complete Dance Routines
I received my DVD version of "Magic Mike" today from Amazon.com. It does not contain the additional footage (dance sequences by Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer.) I was told today by someone that only the Blue Ray combo pac version has this. THIS IS NOT CLEAR IN ANY OF THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS PUT OUT BY AMAZON.COM. Shame on you Amazon, for deliberately misleading the public. Since I saw the film, I would not have purchased this DVD, but wanted to see the dance footage that Soderberg did not include in the film. I don't own a BLU RAY DVD player, by the way and can't afford one. I'm certainly disappointed that the Distribution Company distributed this product in this way.

Be With Me

A Great Horror Anthology...
Be With Me, aka Ghost, is a South Korean horror anthology that follows three girls that are told their fortunes and are told to expect a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after they chant their name 3 times in front of a mirror. Each story has a ghost theme, all of them using horror as their main element, the first and last story use some comedy. Be With Me is a great horror anthology.

I enjoyed all of the stories in this film. The first story has three students sent into an old school by the seniors and they have to find a ghost. This film uses haunting imagery of ghosts, plenty of jump scares, and some funny moments throughout. The second story follows a young pregnant student and her very close friend. This story doesn't use ghost or jump-scares as often nor does it use any comedy; this story is slower paced, deeper, and has a strong buildup to its ending, making it much more haunting and impactful than the rest. The final story follows another young student that can see...

i wish there was more
the first part was good, the second was ok, but i really did enjoy the third the best (ghost boy). I think that it had a better story line and i liked the characters and it would make for a great spine off

Great asian horror film
I gave this one 5 start because I think it was great for what it was. Decent story and entertained till the end. I'll be honest that I am a biased opinion because I am one of those people that really enjoys horror films. I'd recommend this movie to people who like Asian horror films that deal with the supernatural story lines.

Logos

Worth the Wait
This film's release was pushed back three times, but now that it's here, I am saying it was totally worth the wait!

Logos is a moody film, brooding with depression and toying with suicide. It evolves slowly, and builds carefully, toward a surprising and enjoyable catharsis. Cerebral, sometimes bordering on pretentious, it makes the viewers think not just about the terrorist attacks of 9/11, and not even our own mortality, but about the basic meaning of life in the face of suffering. The ideas alluded to (I don't want to say presented because the film is not didactic at all) are clearly borrowed from Viktor Frankl's Logotherapy--hence the name. I strongly recommend you read Viktor's "Man's Search for Meaning".

For the budget the filmmaker took Logos as far as it could go. There are special effects pretty much in every frame, but these are not used in a gaudy, heavy-handed, gratuitous way. I see references to old time radio, film noire, surrealism, and avant garde...

Love in a Puff

Sweet & Humorous
Overall humorous and really sweet (especially the ending, both before and after the credits). I wouldn't say that this is the best movie out there but Miriam Yeung and Shawn Yue are cute as the main leads. A bit of profanity and dirty jokes here and there which, I think is to make their speech sound more realistic. A little slow at some points but overall not a bad movie about two smokers who connect during smoke breaks.

Miriam Yeung and Shawn Yue make a cute on screen couple!
This is definitely a cougar chasing after a young cub type of romantic flick, but with such good actors it's very enjoyable!

It was ok
Lots of talking and smoking. Wasn't really feeling "the love". LOL. But, they claimed to have fallen in love. Not even a kiss. Nothing.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

A Modern Classic Fantasy/Horror Adventure.
Hovering half-way between being serious and being funny--and enjoying every minute of its crazy balancing act--this is a great movie. A real movie.

Given the rarity of good films made in Hollywood these days, I had no reasonable expectations, statistically, for a good film here. So I went into the cinema and hoped for the best, but expected nothing.

Imagine my surprise when I found that "Abe Lincoln" is 1. a well-acted period film with great sets and costumes, 2. a wildly paced action special effects feast, 3. an effectively witty self-satirical historical rewrite and 4. a gruesomely graphic horror flick! I don't see this as a perfect film--it's got flaws. But the handful of flaws that bother me, I can ignore, because this is a film made with a joyous spirit, and the overall structure works well. I've seen this five times in the theatre at this point. I haven't seen a film that many times theatrically in over twenty years! I had read the book and enjoyed it,...

I never thought I'd appreciate my 5th grade Civil War history lessons. They paid off well in gory fun well worth the wait!
Director Timur Bekmambetov is a veteran of exaggerated action and genre-splitting fang flicks, having directed Night Watch (2004), Day Watch (2006) and Wanted (2008). In addition to some of those he has produced The Darkest Hour (2011), Apollo 18 (2011) and the possible Wanted 2 (????). He picks weird projects and visually supplements them in unexpected and often impressive (though also often ridiculous) ways. He's a creative guy and, in general, I'm pleased with his work--including his latest: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Our story begins by weaving motive. Young Abraham witnesses the death of his mother at the hand of a vampire. From that day into adulthood, Abraham (Benjamin Walker in his first major role and looking like a young Liam Neeson) seeks revenge against that vampire, but hates them all.

Honest Abe is trained by Henry Sturgess (Dominic Cooper), who is as un-Yoda-like as it gets complete with rigid rules, a temper and a penchant for...

Kill Bill, Priest, Underworld, and Blade, back in the 1800s!
If you like the Vampire movie the "Priest", then you will Love this movie. Stunning high visual and heavy hitting action. Top (A +) CGI, and stunning cinematography. Beautiful period wardrobe and stunning period sets. A-list acting from all actors. Superior script that works. Don't be put off by the Lincoln idea, the script actually works...and the young man selected to perform Lincoln does a damn good job of it, from start to finish. This movie has some of the most stunning balls-to-wall action I have ever seen in a movie...and gives competition to the Underworld, and the Blade Movies! Remember this movie is produced by A-List Director (Tim Burton), and he does not put out Bulls*** movies! This is an A-List Vampire movie and is one of the best Vampire action movies that I have ever seen in a while. This movie is different and takes you to another place and time. It's made very well I must say. In closing, this is not a movie you would rent. This is a rare kind of movie that is...

Hey Dillon - The Director's Cut

Before I knew Brett Dillon, I only knew OF Brett Dillon. And I never, ever heard anything but glowing, glowing words used about Brett. No catty detractions about his taste or his show, or his pets or grudges ever. Even other radio people spoke well of him in the same, "he's above and beyond" kind of way.

After I met him, I understood how he earns such loyal and ardent friends and fans. Brett is kind, patient, hilarious and utterly committed to music and radio. I often tell people that radio promotion is one of my favorite parts of my job, and it's true: Radio people are a great part of any day. Don't Go Breaking My Heart

Fantastic Classic Romance
This is a fantastic romance movie! I'm tired of the modern romances where snogging and sex are the main highlights and the budding romance is the sideliner. This movie focuses on the romance of two building relationships; it develops the relationships fully and with depth and does not rely upon sex to sell it. I was hooked from the get go. And, it was funny to boot. I never thought I'd end up attached to the darn frog either!

Very Cute Movie
Very cute movie yet so very frustrating that it took her so long to choose the right man. Thankfully he is by far the most patient man I have ever seen. I want to say it's a typical romance chick flick but somehow it wasn't maybe because it's well written, a little drawn out but well written, besides I always beg for most movies to become more invested in developing it's characters and with this one by the end I felt I knew them. Very good watch if you like romance movies.

Like romantic comedy? This is one to watch!
Cheng Zixin's (Gao Yuanyuan) fateful day begins the same as any other day. On this day, though, Cheng runs into her former boyfriend whom she had been with for seven years and his new significant other while on the bus heading to work. It is also the same day she runs into her two new suitors, Cheung Shen Ran (Louis Koo) and Fang Qihong (Daniel Wu). So begins the ensuing journey to find her true love along with its warm and funny moments.

Smart and funny, I definitely would recommend this film to anyone who likes romantic comedy.

Paul Williams Still Alive

Paul's Fans are Still Alive Too
I'm strongly recommending this film, although only to those "super-fans" of Paul Williams (and I can proudly count myself as being one of them).

I've been listening to Paul Williams ever since my father brought home his LP "A Little Bit Of Love" way back in 1974. I was only 10 or so, but his songs resonated with me even as a young boy. The album was so vastly different from any of the typical country twang that my father was accustomed to playing that it really stood out, and it remains a favorite of mine even to this day. In the mid 70's, Williams released "Phantom of the Paradise", an incredibly creative glam/horror cult film and soundtrack that truly solidified my love for Paul and his music.

STILL ALIVE recounts the many TV guest appearances and cameos Paul made during the 70's, and as a fan, it was so pleasurable watching these film snippets. It was like traveling inside a television time capsule, and I was struck at the sheer volume of projects Paul was...

A misguided but surprisingly compelling story...
Tossing aside the poorly chosen title, the film has one significant conceit that harms it... the idea that Paul's existence was solely dictated by his TV popularity. He WAS a staple of 70's TV talk shows, but let's face it, A) the talk show format died, Paul didn't, and B) if that is what you love Paul for you're obviously not as interested in Paul as you think you are. Director Stephen Kessler takes us along on a fascinating ride which on the surface comes across like a stalker/star relationship wherein the stalker uses the camera to leverage access, which lends the first half of the film a great deal of uneasy tension between the subject and the director. How many filmmakers WANT to advertise that their presence made their star itch?

The film still manages to pull a rabbit out of it's hat as Paul's life is explored in sometimes deep levels and other times very shallow ones (an effort to gloss over Paul's work for Alcoholics Anonymous is brushed off nearly as easily as...

A missed opportunity....
The premise of director Stephen Kessler's film, Paul Williiams Still Alive, is that Kessler, a fan of legendary singer-songwriter and 70s pop culture icon,Paul Williams, since childhood, wrongly assumed that Williams was dead. Once Kessler discovered, in fact, that Williams was 'still alive,' he decided to look Williams up and make a documentary about him, or so he says. That premise sounds shaky to begin with. If you are a fan of someone's work then wouldn't you feel compelled to keep up with what they have been up to, creatively speaking? WIth such a self professed love of Williams' music, you would think that Kessler would give us some insight into the man and what he's been up to during the last three decades. Instead, what you get here are numerous opportunities spent trying to get Williams to emote on camera with very little regard for what makes him tick as a person. There are some interesting and amusing clips of Williams' 70s variety and talk show appearances but, other than...

Beyond the Myth

Very moving!
I love dogs, but never had a strong opinion one way or another about pit bull breeds, although I'd probably avoid one just to be safe. This documentary really opened my eyes to the discrimination that happens for absolutely no reason other than physical characteristics. I realize now what a great breed these dogs are, and I'd adopt one. If you have a soul, this movie will make you cry. But don't shy away from it for that reason. This is something you need to know about!

If you love pit bull, then this is the documentary for you!
This documentary is very powerful, as well as it is informative. As a fellow pit bull owner, I feel that this film does a great job at creating awareness about the issue that pit bulls have negative reputation for being dangerous and vicious. The stories featured throughout are heartfelt and inspiring. It definitely inspired me to take more action to raise awareness. If you have or have ever owned a loving pit bull, then you should take time and watch this documentary! By the end of it, you'll find yourself wanting to take a stand against the laws that prohibit people in certain cities the right to own a pit bull. You won't be disappointed!

All dog lovers must see!!
I have always LOVED dogs but I must admit, I have not always loved pit bulls or really knew anything about them. It wasn't until a couple years ago when we rescued our petite pitty Cassie that my world changed. I would recommend this documentary to ANY dog lover, not just those that love the breed. Here's why. Breed specific legislation can happen to any breed. Once it happens to one breed it then spirals out of control to now there are states that ban 10 breeds of dogs and the list is going. It comes down to the fact that the individual dogs on a case by case basis. BSL is like the witch hunting in the early ages. The checklist that some cities use is a complete crock. If a dog has certain characteristics then it's a "pit". If we labeled people like that we'd be getting sued left and right. The breed does not matter, it goes down to how the dog is raised, trained, and socialized. Let's look at statistics people, Golden Retrievers have the most bites. Bottom line is owners should be...

My Mother the Mermaid

dont let the title fool you, wonderful film
the young actress was excellent. the story contrasts the couple in their youth and in later years. although it doesn't cover the in between years this is something left for reflection. i was drawn by the young "mermaid" story and the simple life depicted on the island. her spunky but sweet innocence was touching and captivating. loved the bit on the korean translation of "alright"

a charming movie
This is one of those sweet, small movies focused on people, time and family. The heroine is a young working woman with an awful, crude, swearing mother. There seems to be an unbridgeable gap. Fate, and perhaps magic, take her into her mother's past, and, as so often happens in successful drama, she learns and understands as she follows her mother and father's courtship on a remote Korean island where her mother works as a pearl diver. The movie used the island setting to give a real sense of time and place, adding much to appeal and power of the story. I couldn't help thinking of such films as Local Hero and I Know Where I Am Going.

Sorry, but there are no big shoot 'em ups and no pat conclusions. The epilog is touching. The actress who plays both the modern daughter and her younger mother does a great job. (The English subtitles are flawed, but definitely adequate.)

Love Story
A tear jerking love story where daughter travels back in to witness how her parents fell in love. The title is misleading because I thought it would focus on her mother youth.

Dissonance

Independent Film Fans Should Enjoy This One
If you enjoy watching the Independent Film Channel as much as I do then you'll probably enjoy seeing this short psychological drama, shot in and around Houston, Texas, and directed by Natassia Fissiak. "dissOnance" is the story of Troy (Kevin Dowd), a recovering alcoholic who seeks to destroy the marriage of his former lover after accidentally meeting her husband while working at a car dealership. Troy's life has been in shambles since his breakup with Marina (Karina Junker) nine years earlier and his budding music career has been on hold ever since. He resorts to setting up a blackmail scheme involving Marina's husband in hopes of getting her back into his life, no matter the consequences. I found the fantasy/dream sequence in this film to be stylishly reminiscent of the private party scene in Stanley Kubrick's final film, "Eyes Wide Shut". Carlos Sepulveda co-stars as Marina's husband. This film was entered in the short film category at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Hearty Paws 2

Review
Get your tissues ready. 'Hearty Paws 2' is an emotional rollercoaster that is at times heartwarming, funny, sad and a real nail biter. I would have given this film five stars except for an episode when the jewelry thieves encounter wild boars where the narrative lags a bit and some of their over the top antics.

If you like dogs and dog films, I would definitely recommend this Korean gem. You will immediately loose your heart to Maeumee and her pups and be rooting for them all the way.

Dreamworks Spooky Stories

Great Halloween Pack/Blu Ray
Just received the DreamWorks Spooky Stories Blu-ray and I have to say, it's great. There are five features with both the characters from Shrek and Monsters vs. Aliens having some Halloween fun. In the same vein as other holiday specials like "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" and "Garfield's Halloween Adventure", both my children and I enjoyed watching it together and so will you.

JoshuaC's Reviwe of Dreamwork's halloween dvd
This set has both of the Halloween shows that DW made for tv, but in addishion it has several new catoons never seen on tv or theaters; and the Shrek 3D movie from the Universal Studios attraction. The "Play All" feature weaves the old with the new, it starts w/a new one "Thriller"; where they mirrors the MJ mv. Then it leads into "Scared Shrekless" the tv special, followed by the short "The Pig Who Cryed Werewolf"; this starts as a "Rear Window" like story. One of the 3 pigs thinks there new neighbor (The Big Bad Wolf)is up to some thing, and it smells delicious. It ends like the Abbott and Costello movie "Hold That Ghost," with the heroes running off into the horizon; w/one the saying "I told u so!" This leads into the the "Monsters vs Aliens; Attack of the Mutant Pumpkins" another tv special. This is fellowed by the new cartoon "Monsters vs Aliens; Night of the Living Carrots"; this is a continuation of "Attack of the Mutant Pumpkins." It starts w/BoB in froint of a curtain, (like...

great halloween stories
We really like these 4 stories of Shrek and all the character in 4 different "scary" stories. Great for Halloween, but my 2 yr. old watches this movie at least once a day all year.

Thunder Island

Very well done and solid "B" movie
Set in Puerto Rico, a professional hit man (Gene Nelson, OKLAHOMA!) is hired by a woman (Miriam Colon, SCARFACE), who represents an underground political group, to assassinate a former dictator (Jose De San Anton). An ex advertising executive (Brian Kelly, TV's FLIPPER), who now charters his boat to tourists, is forced to help the hit man to protect his wife (Fay Spain). This little "B" movie is unexpectedly well done for the most part. Taut and lean, it wastes no time in getting down to business. Based on a screenplay co-written by a young Jack Nicholson (yes, the actor), the director Jack Leewood (normally a producer of "B" movies like THE ALLIGATOR PEOPLE) efficiently prods the movie along while keeping us absorbed in the story. Alas, the film goes flat in the last ten minutes or so as Kelly runs around an island chasing Nelson. The CinemaScope lensing by John M. Nickolaus Jr. is polished though the B&W cinematography doesn't do justice to the lush Puerto Rican...

Thunder Island
I was expecting something more exciting. I basically bought the movie because it starred Brian Kelly. I loved him in "Flipper" and "Around the World Under the Sea". But, over all, I was disappointed by this one.
