The Order

Dark And Delightful
After reading numerous critics' reviews of this movie, I went in with the lowest of expectations. In fact, if not for the insistence of my wife, I wouldn't have even bothered checking it out. I admit to being pleasantly surprised. I'd give it a solid 3.5 stars.

This movie delves into the dark side of the Catholic church. Peter Weller is delightfully evil as the "dark pope." Heath Ledger is solid as always. Jon Laurimore turns in a solid, awesome performance as the "Sin Eater", and Shannyn Sassamon gives the only questionable performance. I just couldn't figure out if she was trying to really get into her mentally disturbed character, or if she was too sleepy to really care.

As for the story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The pacing was great for me. This is not an in your face, gross out, thrill a minute, jump out of your seat movie. It gets under your skin, and deep in the dark recesses of your mind. It's creepy and disturbing.

The movie highlights some fallacies within the...

Suspenseful, dark and delightful.
Alex (Heath Ledger) a rebellious priest from a disappearing fringe of Catholicism goes to Rome to determine the cause of the mysterious death of Dominic, his excommunicated mentor. He is accompanied in his quest by Mara (Shannyn Sossamon), a troubled love who just escaped an institution for the mentally ill and by Thomas (Mark Addy), the other living priest of his church. Together and with the help of a Cardinal (Peter Weller) and a murky and devious character named Chirac, he discovers that a Sin Eater, a person capable of absorbing someone else's sins thus granting them entry to the kingdom of Heaven over God's back, was behind the death of Dominic. When the church refuses Dominic a burial in holy ground, Alex, who is supposed to kill the Sin Eater under the Cardinal's suggestion, is instead lured by him to find the truth and understand the meaning of what he does. Then the conflict between Alex's beliefs and desires begins.
This movie has a well-assembled cast (some returning...

Not for those uncomfortable questioning religion
A thought provoking and entertaining film with lots of imagery and some jump out of your seats moments. Not an action thrill ride but not slow moving either. Would certainly make people uncomfortable if they devoutly believed all church teachings.
The story was well acted and Heath Ledger especially gave a mature and "old soul," feel to his approach.

Live Free or Die Hard (Unrated) [HD]

The unrated version is fantastic! Spoilers Ahead!
Like many other people nervously anticipating Len Wiseman's debut as DH4 director, I could only hope that he could live up to, at the least, Die Hard 2. But he has done a fantastic job with McClane, that lives up to the previous trilogy. In fact, I'd rank LFoDH just behind the first Die Hard movie. No one can top Alan Rickman! The small touches, e.g. Gennero/McClane, Agent Johnson, helicopter flying, are subtle, but add greatly to the movie.

There were a few things missing from the theatrical release, of course. Most noticeably, the lack of swearing, McClane's trademark yippee-kai-yay being truncated. The violence was all there, but it just wasn't intense enough. Fear not fans! The unrated version fixes all of that! It's fantastic, McClane is back in all of his mf-in' glory!

**Spoilers ahead, so read at your own risk.**

I was hoping for some more dialogue from Timothy Olyphant in the unrated...

Live Free Or Die Hard Reminds Us Why We Love John McClane And Why Sometimes Going Back To The Basics Is Sometimes A Good Thing
Die Hard is considered by many film buffs as the greatest action movie ever made. There is just something about the character of John McClane that attracts movie goers. Is it his spunky attitude or is it the fact that he is known for having really bad days? It's both. There have been action franchises that have run out of steam in the past, but all three Die Hard films were great fun. Usually I'm not a fan of dipping into the well one too many times, but if Batman Begins and Casino Royale were able to re-spark the magic then why not give Die Hard another go?

Live Free Or Die Hard takes an old fashioned cop and throws him out of his element, which leaves room for a supporting character. Justin Long steps in as McClane's frazzled and tech wizard sidekick. Timothy Olyphant plays a cyber terrorist who decides to shutdown the entire nation in order to systematically collect hundreds of millions of bank account numbers in order to show the government that the system can in fact...

Unrated Special Edition the only way to go
Fans of the Die Hard franchise were upset when it was announced that this film would be the first one in the series to be rated PG-13, an obvious bid to attract a younger audience. Thankfully, the more violent, profanity-laden unrated version is included on this DVD so that we can watch the film the way it was meant to be seen.

The first disc includes an audio commentary by director Len Wiseman, actor Bruce Willis and editor Nicolas De Toth. Right from the get-go, all three men address the studio-imposed PG-13 rating thing and how they went ahead and shot an R rated version anyway. There are quite a few lulls as the three men tend to get caught up watching the film but manage to deliver a fairly decent track.

The second starts off with "Analog Hero in a Digital World: Making Live Free or Die Hard," a feature-length documentary that can also be viewed as 10 separate featurettes. Wiseman admits to being a big fan of the series, especially the first one, and this...

The Girl Next Door (Unrated)

Saw a review copy - loved this entertaining comedy drama
There is a point in "The Girl Next Door - Unrated Edition' (which I received and promptly devoured, extra's and all, in one sitting) where the movie is in danger of changing in tone and focus from American Pie to Showgirls, but luckily for the movie - and viewers - it recovers itself and ends in a definite teen comedy spirit.

I never saw this movie in the theater so I cannot comment on what has been added to this "unrated edition" but there is certainly quite a lot of nudity, but nothing involving the main actors. There are some graphic scenes at a strip club (including lap dancing) and we get shots of one of the main actors watching a porn video at home. There are some nude scenes from behind of both principal actors Emile Hirsch and Elisha Cuthbert, but as Hirsch points out on Side B of the disc (where most of the extras are located) the movie used a stand-in for those shots.

I have a word of caution regarding the list of extra's on the Amazon page. One is...

So, is it better in Blu-ray?
The honest answer is no.
And that is extensive to the unrated version of the movie.
Why? Ok let me se...

For a movie that is only 5 or 6 years old, the transfer shouldn't look older than it does. The transfer is just a modest upgrade of the less-than-reference quality picture included on the original DVD.

Too much noise/grain and inconsistent color levels are the main offenders here, with the occasional edge enhancement creeping in as well. Night time and indoor scenes have the most issues, but our first reveal of Cuthbert in a wet, white shirt looks near-perfect, picture-wise. Colors are mostly set to a permanent dull hue, and in some instances are muddy, which is surprising given the quality of most Fox offerings. Trust me, this isn't blu-ray quality.

So if you have the DVD version of it, stick to it and don't change it for the Blu-ray version, you can even find a DVD unrated adaptation of it, plus you won't loose money on it!

Fall For the Girl Next Door...
Teen comedies always turn up big business at the box office, this is generally due to the fact that the creative forces behind these movies include plenty of crude humor, sex, and nudity as can be allowed under the MPAA ratings system. Most of the time these teen comedies are a dime-a-dozen, opening big and fading shortly thereafter, with little lasting appeal with audiences. However, there have been some successes in the genre that have had more staying power than others, examples would be "Animal House", the `Scary Movie' franchise, and the `American Pie' series. With those examples of successful teen comedies, they all have some common traits in which they share, basically they are packed full of sex, nudity, and crude humor and language. However, one thing these examples of successful teen comedies, and even the unsuccessful ones lack is any amount of heart or soul in the story. In 2004, Fox Studios produced yet another teen comedy to appease the masses for a short while,...

Team Sizzle Films Presents: Training Camp - A Short Film Showcase

FILM FESTIVAL WINNERS
I've had the pleasure of seeing each of these short films separately. I've been anxiously waiting on their release and was overjoyed to see that they are being released in a compilation. These short films will have you ooo-ing and ahhh-ing, talking to the screen and talking to the characters. And then hitting rewind so that you can do it again! Each one is magnificent on it's own. BUT TOGETHER......this is POWERFUL! This DVD is a must own. You WILL watch it over and over and over....

Love these Short Films
I received my copy the other day in the mail and watched them all last night. Thoroughly enjoyed Sisters, Marco Polo and When Beautiful People do Ugly Things. Absolutely Wonderful. I only wished they were longer. They ended too soon. :-) I had never seen or heard about Commitment until last night. It was very intriguing. The story lines, the music, the acting, the production, everything was just very well done. I can't wait to see what Team Sizzle has for us next. It's very captivating. Get your copy, you won't regret it.

Awesome Shorts
I have had the pleasure of seeing all of these shorts from these very talented film makers. Quality, character driven films!

Welcome To Mooseport

Ray, you ruined this movie.
Simply put, Mooseport is a bad movie. Far fetched, not funny, slow-paced and boring. A waste of 90 minutes of my life. This is why this movie went straight from the theaters to DVD and HBO. Ray Romano's poor acting (as "Handy" the plumber) in particular ruined the movie. Romano was dull, lifeless and easy to root against. If it was not for Gene Hackman, who as usual, does a great job, I would have quit after the first 30 minutes. If you want to check this out, I would wait until the DVD hits the 5 dollar rack at your local Wal-mart/Target.

More Like, "Welcome to DULLSVILLE"
This is what one might call a "work movie" or an excercise in filmmaking. WELCOME TO MOOSEPORT has an impressive cast from Ray Romano, Gene Hackman, Marcia Gay Harden, Maura Tierney, Rip Torn, and Fred Savage. However, the plot is predictable and the characters are one-dimensional. Hackman plays ex-President of the United States, Monroe Cole. He has retired to Mooseport, Maine and is asked by the local citizenry to run for a vacated Mayor's position. Then, he finds himself running against the local hardware store/plumber owner Handy Harrison played by Ray Romano. Then, the writers throw in a lame side-plot of Cole trying to win the heart of Handy's fiance (Tierney). Handy/Romano is so likeable and low-key in the movie that he gets lost amongst the townspeople and his co-workers at his hardware store during most of the movie. Hackman as ex-President Cole has the proverbial phoned-in performance. The real stand-out comedic performance is that of Fred Savage (tv's THE WONDER YEARS) as...

Welcome to Mooseport (2004)
Director: Donald Petrie
Cast: Gene Hackman, Ray Romano, Marcia Gay Harden, Maura Tierney, Christine Baranski, Fred Savage, Rip Torn.
Running Time: 115 minutes.
Rated PG-13 for some language and gross elderly nudity (just an old man's behind).

"Welcome to Mooseport" has enough charm and some quirky moments to make those who are fans of Ray Romano's "Everybody Loves Raymond" television show giggle somewhat, but ultimately it is caught trying to be a comedy that does not have much scripted humor and relies too much on Romano to get laughs just because of his fame. Gene Hackman is well-casted as Monroe "Eagle" Cole, one of the most famed former Presidents of the United States of America, who has moved to the small Maine town of Mooseport due to a sloppy divorce that left him without his Baltimore home. Ray Romano stars as Handy Harrison (who happens to be a handy man-go figure), a goofball that knows the ins-and-outs of the town, but does not know when to commit to...

Lemonade Mouth

Wow! Surprise!
I gotta say that I was definitely surprised when I saw this movie. I mean, I was expecting something like High School Musical so I didn't think I'd even bother seeing it, but I decided, "What the heck, I got some time to spare..." and I'm glad I did! This is a family, fun, feel-good movie that leaves you feeling empowered no matter your age and it encourages everyone especially kids and teens to be confident and not be afraid to chase that dream or take a chance. It really is just so entertaining and the songs are addictive! Can't wait to get my hands on this movie!

Reviewing the DVD, not the movie.
People who have posted reviews here so far are reviewing the movie. Yes, the movie was a lot of fun. The tunes were catchy. My son, wife, and I enjoyed it. That's why I pre-ordered this from Amazon. I was lucky and it arrived yesterday (the day before release) and we put it in immediately to check it out.

With all of the recent things the Disney Channel has done with this movie, we were excited to see the extras. We especially enjoyed when they did the "what's what" edition where they had popups of jokes and info throughout the movie. There were tiny videos of cast activities as well and this would lead us to believe that there was quite a bit of extra material to put in the dvd...we were wrong.

The video quality is, of course, fantastic. I expected this from a dvd over watching it on cable. Also, the extra "High Wire" scene is fun and you could see where it would be a nice epilogue to the move. There was also a karaoke feature that allowed you to have...

Lemonade Mouth
I am a Disney-Lover and I watch every movie. Lemonade Mouth is a great movie for kids. It teaches everyone about how first impression's, aren't everything. People can change themselves. Everyone gets back up when they fall down. I give Lemonade Mouth 5 stars. Lemonade Mouth, shows kids Diversity and Individuality. I recommend it to anyone who is able to like bravery and unique things.

The Clearing

Not for newlyweds
THE CLEARING will resonate most, I think, with long-married couples. Newlyweds and those married for less than, say, ten years - perhaps longer - may leave the theater thinking, "What was that all about?" Gum-chewing, adolescent singles needn't bother even buying a ticket.

Successful executive Wayne Haynes (Robert Redford) lives the good life in an elegant mansion in a leafy suburb with his wife of decades, Eileen (Helen Mirren). One morning on the way to work, Wayne is kidnapped by Arnold Mack (Willem Dafoe), a former employee, and made to march at gunpoint deep into the woods, ostensibly to be handed over to accomplices waiting in a cabin who've planned the escapade for reasons to be revealed. Eileen is left to expect developments and a ransom note with FBI agent Fuller (Matt Craven).

To be honest, I kept expecting a plot twist that would reach out, knock the popcorn from my hands, and scream "Gotcha!" And, admittedly, I was a little...

A Good, Simple Story. 61 out of 100
The Clearing is a story of a couple, Wayne (played by Robert Redford) and Eileen (Helen Mirrem), who are in the golden stages of there marriage when Wayne is kidnapped.

Wayne is a successful business man who has nice adult children, a gorgeous home, a nice car and a mistress. Wayne exits his home one day, only to be kidnapped by Arnold Mack (played by Willem Dafoe). It is here that the story begins.

The Clearing really isn't a kidnapping movie so much as it is a story about Wayne and Eileen. It moves along at a comfortable pace, but is by no means an intense thriller or action motion. This is not a bad thing.

The story is fresh, the acting well above average, and the interaction between the characters is pleasant to watch. Overall, the only flaw in the movie is that we really don't get a taste for Wayne and Eileen's relationship to the depth that is needed. They are rarely on screen together. Thus, there is a tension that is missing, because our hearts...

A Psychological Study, Not Action Thriller
This is an intense drama which examines the impact of a kidnapping on the three main participants in the drama; Wayne Hayes (Robert Redford), a driven executive who has become a multimillionaire by selling the business which he founded; his wife Eileen (Helen Mirren), who shares their luxurious estate but who was deeply wounded years ago by an affair which she now learns has not ended, and Arnold Mack (William DaFoe), a menacing yet vulnerable kidnapper who hopes to begin a new chapter in his disappointing life. It is directed with great attention to detail; while there are occasionally scenes of intense action, most are very brief except for the one involving the payment of the eventual ransom demand. The performances of the three co-stars in this film allow them to exhibit their talent for dramatic expression which has made them recognizable to all fans of serious drama; if strong performances and a well crafted film by themselves are sufficient criteria for you to attend a movie,...

Why Am I Doing This?

It's funny! Give this one a chance
I laughed several times through out this film. My five star rating is based on this being a B-rate movie. I'm thinking back on the parts now that had me laughing and I'm telling you, go for it. I'm glad they picked the cover picture that they did, that's what reeled me in. The director did a good job covering his bases, and I bet if you're Asian American you'll be able to appreciate this even more. This movie could have been a disaster and I'm pretty tough on "corny" things yet he did some ninja script writing to avoid that. It could use just a little bit of tightening up, to shave about 10 minutes off. However, Im giving an extra point for some of the really good parts that got a little deep (Movie Reference but not a spoiler "Oh when the Saints"). He definitely kept it real. This would be a good movie for 18 to 35ish to watch. But I bet my parents who are not in that braket at all would enjoy this film too. In my opinion I'd say this movie isn't predictable either, which was...

Pleasant Surprise
While unsure of how this film showed up in my genre search, I'm so glad it did. Funny, refreshing, quirky and layered, with excellent acting, my question now is, where's it been hiding. Great movie!

A pleasant movie...
Yeah, the movie is cute and unfortunately realistic! I don't really remember laughing, but it's nice to watch something light and meaningful. It could have been a little shorter, but I really enjoyed the multiethnic approach! I think I understood the approach and I definitely appreciated watching something with some value without all of the morbidity and immoral degradation.

In America

Emotion raw and beautiful
For sheer catharsis, In America beats every movie I've seen since "The Sweet Hereafter" years ago. Like that movie, it deals with the aftermath of the death of a child; unlike that movie, it comes down (after much agony) on the side of a loving family as the only thing that can heal us.

The Sullivans, a young couple with two adorable daughters, slip illegally into the U.S., moving to New York. In theory this is to help Da start his acting career; in reality, it is an attempt to escape from the sad memories of young son Frankie, recently died at 5 of a brain tumor.

The performances are all, all stunning. Samantha Morton, her hair shorn like a penitent nun's, gives a stunning performance driven by the despair in her eyes. The real-world sisters Sara and Emma Bolger seem completely transparent; they leave the impression they are not acting at all, but really living the loss of their beloved brother. The African actor Djimon Hounsou looms like a sad but powerful diety over the...

Heartwarming and basically terrific.
Jim Sheridan's IN AMERICA, though you may not realize it when you watch it, is a fable about wishes, dreams, good defeating bad, families growing stronger, love outlasting all adversity and America as the land of opportunity. It's a delightful film, touching without being too cute.

One thing you must realize throughout the film, when it takes turns toward optimism when other films would grow darker, is that the story is told through the eyes of Christie, the 10-year-old daughter of an Irish immigrant family recently relocated to New York. She narrates the story. She speeds it up and slows it down as she needs to. She talks of her sister Ariel's fears, of her mother's strength and of her father's lost smile. And, most importantly, she puts a positive spin on each of her proud family's struggles.

Another director might have taken this same story and gone in a different, darker direction with it. The elements are there, certainly. The family is poor, living in a tenement alongside...

ultimately a beautiful and heartfelt work
Just saw this film for the second time at the theater, and the metaphor that comes to mind is that of peeling an onion. The first time I saw the film, the skin of the onion was removed. After the first half of the film it started sinking in that this was no mere string of episodes about Irish immigrants in New York City. It was clear from the first that there was good acting, and I expected only one of those European-style "slice of life" films, but I was delighted that the story actually built up a direction and a momentum and built to a truly impressive conclusion. Shakily photographed opening scenes turned out to be a deliberate and very appropriate work of craftsmanship linked into the heart of the film. The weirdly filmed sensual bedroom scene turned out NOT to have just been tossed in for its own sake, but rather was essesntial to set up symbols for the second half of the film. Not every note of the film rings true, but in the second half, once the characters are...

Alien Vs. Predator

Blu-Ray of AVP DOES have the unrated cut.
Blu Ray review:

The Biggest thing about this BD of AVP that is consistently not mentioned is that the BD contains BOTH the PG-13 theatrical cut AND the unrated directors cut of the film. Amazon only lists the disc as the PG-13 version, and even an external BD review site failed to mention the inclusion of the unrated cut. So if you've wanted to get AVP on BD and haven't due to a lack of the unrated cut, fear not, it's on the disc.

Video quality is good. It's not the best picture I've seen, but it's nowhere near the worst. Definitely better than the DVD 4/5 overall

Sound is good as well. Just like video, it's not the best, but it's not the worst. Choices are DTS-HD 5.1 (4-4.6 mbps) in English. French and Spanish in Regular Dolby Digital 5.1 (not HD audio). Overall a 4/5 for the DTS-HD track.

This review isn't about the movie itself, nor is it meant to be all-inclusive. My main reason for writing the review is that the unrated cut isn't...

In Defense of AVP
While most critics have dripped acid on Paul Anderson's "Alien vs. Predator," apparently due to prima facie objections to the very idea of a non-courtroom-drama with the word "versus" in the title, I was pleasantly surprised by AVP.

Is AVP as great as 1986's "Aliens"? Nope. But I think comparing AVP to "Aliens" is to employ the wrong standard. AVP is not competing with that film, in much the same way that "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" was not competing with the sensational "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." No, "Star Trek VI" was competing with the largely reviled "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier." Similarly, AVP is really competing with the oppressively dark, fundamentally unappealing "Alien 3" and strangely goofy, utterly unexciting "Alien Resurrection"; the last Predator movie, 1990's "Predator 2," was released so long ago and did such middling box office that it hardly figures in the popular imagination anymore.

Some have complained about...

Better than the Theatrical Release, but not by much.
For those of you who see "AVP Unrated" and think "Blood, Gore, Language, Violence, and Nudity"...THINK AGAIN!

Where there was a few flecks of blood, there is now a gallon. Where there were two "campy" scenes, there is now only one, But this is not even an "R" rating version of the film, evidenced further by the PG-13 rating on the back of the DVD case.

This fild should have stuck with the "Director's Cut" name and cut out the "Unrated" label, since in my opinion it does not deserve it. If you can swallow the plausability of the story even a litte bit, the this version is more serious and bloodier than the theatrical release, but not by much. "Campy" scenes still abound. Extra footage, edited in Deleted scenes from the Theatrical DVD version and a few other scene changes make this version a lot more fun to own than the first, but hard core fans of the original movies may still find this title a little wimpy.

With all that negative feedback out of the...

What's Your Number? EX-TENDED EDITION

Chris Evans. Naked.
If you are wondering why you should see this movie, see the title. The movie played to its strengths and showed Chris Evans sans clothing numerous times, with very little shielding you from his more... important bits. Have you seen those abs? Combined with that face? Om nom nom nom nom.

I'm sorry, was I reviewing a movie? I got a little lost there.

A lot of the reviews I read were criticizing What's Your Number for being predictable, which confused me. It's a romantic comedy. Were you expecting Shakespeare? When I settle down for a rom com, I'm not looking to be shocked by the plot. I'm looking to laugh, root for the main characters, want the main characters to get together, drool over the male lead (and drool I definitely did, have you noticed?) as well as identify with the female one. I was able to do all of that, therefore I walked out of the movie theater content and pleased. I have recommended this movie to others and was very, very happy with it, going by...

What's Your Number?
What's Your Number? is usually compared to Bridesmaids, well it shouldn't. Sure, they star hilarious female actress (Anna Faris & Kristen Wiig), but they shouldn't be compared to each other. What's Your Number? is cheesy and fun, while Bridesmaids is funny, but also has a "serious" tone to it. What's Your Number? is flat-out funny, right-in-your-face predictable, but that's what I expected it to be. I really enjoyed this one and preordered my copy! It's an excellent movie and I could watch it over and over!

Not as bad as I thought it would be
As long as you do not start watching this movie expecting Notting Hill, it is a nice romantic comedy, perfectly predictable but entertaining and enjoyable. Chris Evans is a great co-lead, and although I am usually not a fan of Anna Farris, she was actually watchable in this movie. This is a movie that does not take itself too seriously - approach it in the same way and enjoy.

Robots

Not Ice Age, but still quite funny
As reviewers, it's natural for us to compare an artist's work to his/her previous album, movie, book, etc. In this case, it becomes "natural" to compare "Robots" to the previous animated hit by Fox, "Ice Age". If we do this, "Robots" comes out lacking against its frozen predecessor. It is not as novel in terms of its intent and also the script is not as powerful (perhaps because it's also tougher to relate to inanimate beings such as robots, than it is to relate to animals or humans). But still, it is a funny (though predictable) movie, with touching moments and plenty of excitement all through it. I particularly enjoyed the ride that Rodney is put through when he arrives in Robot City, in order to get to the headquarters of Big Weld, where he dreams of working.

The humor can be argued to be more adult-oriented, but still with proper supervision, I totally see it being fit for children. The fact that our 18-month old was jumping out of his seat halfway through the movie is...

Just fantastic
Animation is a hot genre these days, thanks to the phenomenal success of Pixar's multi-million dollar blockbusters "Toy Story," "Monsters, Inc," and "Finding Nemo," and DreamWorks' "Shrek." These studio giants have opened the door for other, smaller companies like Blue Sky Studios to release innovative and high-quality movies, such as their first film, "Ice Age" in 2002, and their new, more ambitious endeavor, "Robots."

Visually, "Robots" is stunning, both in the look of the world and the creativity of its inner workings. The colors are vivid and the setup is ripe with potential for visual gags. The first half hour of the film is especially entertaining, beginning with Rodney's "delivery" as a baby. In the robot world, babies are delivered in boxes and are put together like children's toys at Christmas.

The characters, led by an all-star cast of distinctive voices, are fun too, especially Broadbent's deliciously evil Madame Gasket and Williams's high-energy...

I laughed, but was a tad disappointed...
I adore Robin Williams in most things he appears in, but this little movie was not up to his usual standards, and that disappoitned me.

In fact, I was expecting to watch a show along the lines of Cars or Monsters, Inc. and this one was nowhere near as good as they were. However, the being said, it IS a good little movie.

One of the things I noticed about it that makes it a bit different from other cartoonish type animation movies out right now is that this one had a lot of adult innuendo that the other movies don't have. While a younger child, of say age 3-9 or 10 might not notice it, my son was 11 when he watched it, and he got a lot of the 'adult' innuendo in the jokes. He was slow on the uptake, but on one scene, he turned around and looked at me and said, "Oooohhhh, I GET it now!"

While I liked the movie, and so did my daughter and son, I found myself diappointed in my expectations of what this movie would be about and what it would be like. If you...

Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension

Great for adults and teens, may be a little scary for younger kids
"Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension" is a Disney "movie", starring Phineas and Ferb from Disney HD's animated cartoon series of the same name. The story ... Phineas, Ferb, Perry and Dr Doofenshmirtz get transported into a parallel dimension where a more evil/competent Dr Doofenshmirtz has enslaved (say it with me) "the entire Tri-State Area" and the boys must try and set things right ... is typical Phineas and Ferb (P&F) - smart, funny, and written on a level that entertains both adults and kids. The music is also typically outstanding.

The package I bought contains two DVDs with the movie, eight deleted scenes (probably cut for time constraints), a bonus episode from the show, a digital copy of the movie, 8 music tracks from the movie, and best of all, a "Platypult"! :-)

One mild word of warning if you have little ones (say 6 and younger) that like P&F; this episode is a little darker than what you see on typical episodes on TV. Two of my kids...

The above critical rave is fictional, but don't you just love the way some reviews make the huzzahs really big and the sources small? ("*****A TRIUMPH!" - The Margate Pennysaver).

In the case of Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension, its acclaim was well-earned and the ratings were high. The series is one of the best series on television today, including live action and prime time. And if you follow the series, you can spot references between episodes and learn its "language," so to speak. And it's very easy to do that because Disney Channel and Disney X-D runs the already large library of episodes quite a lot.

This helps in appreciating the first TV Phineas and Ferb movie, Across the 2nd Dimension, especially the spectacular climactic scene that parades elements from numerous episodes within minutes. However, it's not necessary to be a Phineasoid to enjoy the film.

Like the series, it's chock...

Great film for kids and adults alike!
In a world where entertainment is riddled with violence, inappropriate images and language, Phineas and Ferb is a breath of fresh air. This is a cartoon that parents can feel good about their kids watching. It is always upbeat and positive and encourages creativity in young people. Granted there are certainly better ways to encourage creativity then watching tv, but this show is something special the entire family can sit down, watch together and enjoy. It has a great sense of humor, an interesting plot line and catchy songs you will find yourself humming long after the show is done. That being said, if you are watching the movie having never seen a Phineas and Ferb show in your life you are going to be a bit confused. There's a lot of in-jokes and characterizations that only the veterans will get, but still the movie is a very enjoyable experience. It has just the right mix of action, comedy, music, a touch of romance, and a secret agent Platypus. I don't know of any other movie...

Horgasm: A Love Story

Big Tricks and Funny Transitions
I am a huge snowboard fan and in my opinion, Torstein is the biggest and best slopes type rider out there. I have seen many snowboard movies and this is my favorite over the art of flight. I don't like documentaries but this is more about snowboarding and some hilarious transition clips with Dax, Torstein's manager. In the end, this is a must see movie.

Rise Of The Planet of the Apes [HD]

Caesar Rises to Greatness!
For a movie whose trailer seemed fake at first glance (a serious drama about a superintelligent ape and his issues?), RotPotA (rot-POT-uh) does an incredible job getting you invested in the plight of a chimp. Low budget for a summer blockbuster, this ninety million dollar film focuses on the rise of Caesar, first of his species and leader of the apes. We watch as he grows up, casts off his human friendships, and eventually leads a revolt in the hopes of achieving freedom for his people, err, his fellow apes.

Whether or not you're going to like this movie boils down to one thing: can you buy into it? Can you lay your hard-earned money on the line and accept Caesar as a fully human character with hopes and fears? Since the actual humans are sort of irrelevant and the apes are incapable of speech, there's not a lot to go on. Basically, if you liked the first 40 minutes of Wall-E, then you'll probably be fine. Caesar may not be a lovable trash robot (or is he?! Twist!), but...

Surprisingly Good!
I admit I've seen the first Planet of the Apes and loved it! But I hated the other sequels! But when I saw the previews for this movie my thoughts were, "Jeez another one?" But when my grandparents and I actually went to the movies and saw the movie for ourselves, we loved it. Its a stand alone movie and its NOT a cheesy sequel to the original and its not a remake. It has a lot of action. Of course James Franco who was in the movie was extremly handsome too! LOL! And the special effects were awesome. It also tells how the chimpanzees get smarter. By the end of the movie everyone including me in the audience were clapping. I don't want to give away too much. Whether your a fan of the original Planet of the Apes or even if you haven't seen the original Planet of the Apes you will love this movie.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes......
After the fiasco reimagining Tim Burton did with his Planet of the Apes movie(even though I liked it), It is understandable that people looked to Rise of the Planet of the Apes with alot of skepticism. Rise(as I'll refer to it from now on) tells the story of how Caesar became aware(able to think for himself, if you will) and then became the leader of the army that will, one day, lead a rebellion against humanity.

When I saw the trailer for the movie months before, I was quite disappointed with it. To be brutally honest, I never thought that Director Rupert Wyatt could pull off a serious reboot of the Planet of the Apes movies without it looking abit like Burton's film but, lo and behold, with Andy Serkis' performance as Caesar- he does more than that. He actually makes the story believable. If Serkis or Wyatt one doesn't get an award during the Oscars, then those people in Hollywood are just plain silly. Being a hardcore Planet of the Apes fans, I came out of the theater...

High School Musical 2

HSM2: Deluxe Dance Edition--Truly Deluxe!
I was amazed by the amount of extras on this 2-Disc DVD set. What a fantastic set--with over 5 hours of bonus material. The story is typically light-hearted fun as you would expect from this franchise. It's the last day of school, and all your favorite East High Wildcats are counting down the seconds for the final bell that tells them it's finally summer! The rousing opening song is "What Time Is It?" and gets the movie off to a high energy start. Troy (Zac Efron), Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), and the gang must get summer jobs; meanwhile, Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) wants to get Troy a job at her country club, Lava Springs, so that he can sing with her at the talent show and become her new boyfriend. Unbeknownst to her, the club's manager, Mr. Fulton (Mark L. Taylor), has to hire the entire gang to get Troy...including Troy's girlfriend Gabriella. Sharpay does everything she can to break the two up, including setting Zac up with a sweet college scholarship. Can Zac resist...

Good music, fair film
This sequel to High School Musical features the same stars as the first film and nearly the same plot. Once again, high school hunk Troy (Zac Efron) ponders whether he should stick to the stuff he knows (in this case, the sweet Gabriella), the conniving Sharpay wants him there beside her, and eventually everyone learns that they're all in this together. OK, that wasn't fair. That's also the plot of "Grease," and for that matter, nearly every other teen musical.

In this case, though, I couldn't help feeling let down. Unlike the original (High School Musical (Encore Edition)), this film breathes not a breath of fresh air. It is, in essence, just a clone of its mama. If you loved the first film you'd like this one -- it has the same feel-good bounce -- but I bet you won't be watching it as often.

So why four stars? The music. It's better! "You Are The Music In Me" is a sincere, catchy duet by...

What else can be said, the kids love it..
I have two daughters (5 & 7) and they love the movie, love the characters and can't stop watching both HSM 1 and 2. For very conservative parents (I kind of consider myself on the conservative side), this isn't all that bad. They do kiss in this one, at the end. Other than that, I can't say there is anything else in the movie that requires explanation to the kids (not that I needed to say anything about "the kiss"). It is actually good, clean fun, unlike many of the other videos that come out nowadays..

Walk the Line EXTENDED CUT [HD]

They Got Married In A Fever
I will preface this by saying I was never a big Johnny Cash fan, but after seeing the excellent way Hollywood handled Ray Charles ("Ray") and Bobby Darin ("Beyond the Sea") I was anxious to see what it would do for The Man in Black. The results are phenomenal. Now, I'm sorry I didn't pay more attention to John and June when they were still living.

Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon are phenomenal as Johnny and June Carter Cash. This unlikely casting yields such outstanding results that I would hand them both the Oscar right now if I could. I read that Reese almost bailed on the project when she found out she had to do her own singing, but you would never know it from the great vocals and spunky performances she delivers.

The film focuses on their love affair, first as friends and then torrid even while he was married to his first wife and the mother of his children. His drug abuse is highlighted but it is Johnny Cash, the complex man and his love for June...

Movie is great but 2nd Disc a Disappointment
A dilemna here. I loved the movie- think the performances are just terrific. The sound and video are really top-notch and the music really enjoyable. I also enjoyed the deleted scens on the first disc and really to think this is a movie worth adding to the personal collection. The problem I have is the features added to the 2-disc collection. They just are not very good. An example- a special on the Folsom Prison concert- clearly one of the most important steps in Cash's career. The special, though it has interesting excerpts of interviews from people who were there, does not have any footage or stills of the actual concert. I found the same to be true of the other specials on the disc as well. Lots of shots of the two stars but very little of the "Man in Black" himself. I would encourage people to buy the movie but to skip the special edition. It just is not worth the extra money, unless you really need five postcards of the stars from the film.

Hmmm. Doesn't look like Nancy and Lee
In WALK THE LINE, Joaquin Phoenix shows that he's come a long way since his role as the crazy Caesar in GLADIATOR.

Those going into WALK THE LINE thinking it's a comprehensive film bio of Johnny Cash may perhaps come out slightly disappointed. While there's a relative brief sequence of his early years growing up on an Arkansas cotton farm, an even briefer sequence of his time in the Air Force in the early 50s, the film really begins in 1955 when, failing as a door-to-door salesman and wannabe gospel singer, he cuts a rock 'n' roll record for Sun Studios in Memphis and his career as a CW crooner takes off. The film ends with his marriage to June Carter in 1968. In between, against the backdrop of early hits, it focuses on his failed marriage to first wife Vivian (Ginnifer Goodwin), his self-destructive abuse of amphetamines, and rocky relationship with singer/actress Carter (Reese Witherspoon), a twice-divorced single mother of two.

The real treat of WALK THE LINE...

Black Tulip (English Subtitled) [HD]

Very Unrealistic
This film doesn't relate and express true images Afghan culture and some scenes depict anti-Afghan tradition. Additionally, it insults U.S. Coalition Forces personnel by showing them drinking alcohol inside military bases, which is banned under general order number One. It also shows U.S. Coalition supporters as Taliban spies.

Poignant and Wonderful!
I was at the premiere of this movie at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul. It is absolutely wonderful and will give you a real idea of what life in Afghanistan is like. The director is an Afghan woman who came to the United States when she was twelve. She wanted to film this movie to show others what life is like in her native land. It was harrowing to hear of the difficulties she faced while making this movie. Once she was riding in a taxi at night and felt something cold next to her hand. It turned out to be a hand blown into the car from a suicide bomber. She was threatened because she was a woman many times. The visuals in this movie are stunning. It has subtitles, but that does not take away from the movie. I have purchased this movie because it reminds me so much of the time I spent in Afghanistan (2 years). I still miss it and I can truthfully say I left a large piece of my heart there. If you want to know why it was important for us to be in Afghanistan, watch this movie. Many of the...

"Bladk Tulip" Movie and Book
None of us here in the U. S. really know how some people live in other countries... Their customs and every day lives...
This movie tells how life really is in some Eastern Countries and how women are treated and girls in general... It opened my eyes.... "Black Tulip" is a wonderful movie to watch and one must read the book also...

3D Review by a 3D Connoisseur
My ratings are based mainly on the QUALITY OF THE 3D, not the video content.

GET THIS; There are about 145 out of screen effects that extend about 10% of the way, from the screen to the viewer and another 36 ranging from 15% to 25%.

The quality of the 3D, in screen and out is exceptional and the movie had my wife and I in stitches many times. This is defiantly a homerun by 20th Century Fox. For animated films, this ranks right at the top along with Open Season and Ice Age.

*** Put this one on your list to ***
*** add to your 3D collection ***

MY 3D RATING = EXCELLENT (poor, fair, good, very good, excellent)

Note: As far as the percentages go, everyone's eyes are different. What I see at 25% you may see at 15% or 35%. To fully realize how far something is out of the screen for you, pause on an effect and direct a partner with an extended finger to the tip of what you are seeing. You may be surprised.

An animated delight
A rare bird is kidnapped from his adoring owner, who must try to retrieve him. Along the way, the bird encounters various delightful, and some not so delightful, characters. Top notch animation, colorful visuals, and prudent voice selections highlight this animated delight. The storyline and the humor will appeal to adults and children alike, as I found myself getting a few laughs out of this one. The 3D effect is outstanding, and this is a movie for which you will want to lay out the extra expense for the 3D glasses. You don't need a babysitter tonight, as the whole family will enjoy this one.

Familiar themes, but highly entertaining with gorgeous animation
The best single word I can use to describe the film Rio is 'vibrant' as it's the colors that really hit you. One can see why, when you're doing a story about birds, setting it in Brazil with its dazzling variety of brilliantly multicolored avian species is a truly inspired choice.

The story begins when a baby blue macaw in the Brazilian rain forest falls (literally) into the hands of exotic animal poachers and ends up being shipped to the US where, by a fortunate accident, he ends up being adopted by a young girl named Linda in a small town in, of all places, wintry Minnesota. A quick flash forward shows girl and bird, which she names Blu, growing up together, to fifteen years later where Linda is now an adult who owns her own bookstore. The thing is though, Blu, raised as a house-bird, never learned how to fly.

The plot really begins when a Brazilian ornithologist named Tulio comes to Linda's store, having learned from her web-site that she's the owner of Blu,...

IT'S NOT RISKY...
Sam (James D'Arcy) returns from Iraq and wonders about his future. He turns down an easy drug dealing job from his mates to go work as a prison guard. As a prison guard he gets caught in the middle of the politics of crooked guards, drug dealing prisoners, and an unscrupulous wing governor. His life spirals out of control, the thing he was trying to prevent, and he doesn't realize it.

The film starts out interesting and draws you in. However, after about 90 minutes or so, you can't wait for it to be over. James D'Arcy plays Sam in a rather bland almost characterless fashion. His character was hard to get into, and as the centerpiece of the film, he was a hard guy to root for as he becomes his own enemy.

Not the best British crime drama out there, but it does seem like the longest.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity.

You're screwed mate
Screwed is a serious take on the life of an ex-squaddie and what life is like in one of the tougher British Prisons as an active prison guard. The story is based on the experiences of Ronnie Thompson, who wrote a book about it and also penned the screenplay to this film. Thompson spent seven years working in various prisons and the screenplay is based on the book and the experiences he went through in the job.

James D'Arcy plays the lead role of Sam Norwood and plays it really well. It is quite a versatile role in that he had to play an ex-squaddie, just back from Iraq and portray all that goes with that. He suffers from nightmares and flashbacks and the death of his friend dying in his arms haunts him. Not the best grounding for working in an enclosed space with hardened criminals who have the ability to spontaneously self-combust at any moment. Glee: The Concert

Don't Stop Believin'!
If there's one thing Glee has taught me, even at 23, is to be who you are and don't ever change that for anyone. 'Glee Live! In Concert' was the 2nd tour by the memebers of the hit Fox show Glee: The Complete First Season. They perform the best of the best from the show. There are cute little vignettes in between songs talking about Janae, a dwarf, and how she deals with her "handicap" and Trenton, a gay kid who was outed unwillingly by his classmates; they share their stories. The staging is simple but the lighting and video screens make up the theatrics.

Although it's evident that the majority of the show is dubbed, that does not take away from the magic that is Glee. The members performed as a cast as well as solos- THE WARBLERS AND GWYNETH PALTROW MAKE APPEARANCES!!

The setlist is as follows:

1."Don't Stop Believin'" - Full cast
2."Dog Days Are Over" - Full cast...

Not the best live in concert DVD ever
First off, the cast did a great job performing at the concert (not that I actually went to a concert). It's just the way it's on the DVD that I'm not thrilled with.

To begin with, it's labeled as a "documentary" concert film. Meaning they do interviews with fans throughout the movie. I wouldn't mind a little bit of "my favorite character is..." at the beginning before the concert starts, but the constant back and forth throughout the movie is distracting from the concert, imo. The interviews with the cast should stay, but the ones with the fans should go (or at least go on the special features).

Another thing I found annoying is the fact that most of the songs on the DVD are not in the order they sang in the concert. Also, while Dog Days Are Over and Friday are on the DVD, they are only in the special features part, not in the actual movie. If the songs were good enough to be performed in concert, why were they not good enough to be on the live in concert...

What a waste of money
I purchased this DVD to watch Glee in concert not fans rabbiting on about how Glee had changed their lives. If I wanted that then Ryan should have made a DVD on fan's reactions to the show and concerts to purchase separately. So much great song material from all the episodes to date and we get just a handful on this DVD and some were even cut short. I had no chance to see many of the individuals that make up the talent that is Glee performing music from the series. All we got again was a handful of them. Talk about being ripped off. This was even worse that Glee Encore where at least all the songs were sung without breathless interruptions of "Oh my favorite Glee character is Kurt because he is so open about how he is gay and it gave me courage to deal with my sexuality" Ummmmm tell someone that gives a toss because I don't. All I wanted is the characters performing the songs they are now famous for and that definitely did not happen. Thumbs down big time. I wonder how many copies...

Night of Dark Shadows

Welcome Back To Creepy Collinwood!
'Night of Dark Shadows' is the second of the two Dark Shadows motion pictures. At the time of it's release, this one didn't do quite as well as the first, but over the years, it has developed a strong cult following, and looks very good on repeated viewings.

What always impressed me about 'Night of Dark Shadows' was it's subtlety. 'House of Dark Shadows' was fast, loud and very "in your face." 'Night of Dark Shadows' is quiet in comparison -- the music is lush and softer, and the pace is quite relaxed at times. However, what emerges is an underlying sense of dread which intensifies throughout the course of the film (similar to Dan Curtis' 'Burnt Offerings' from 1976). This makes the shocks and scares even more jarring, and by the end of the film, the audience is left feeling bewitched, bothered and bewildered!

It's also important to mention David Selby, who turns in an excellent performance as Quentin Collins. His moodswings and erratic behavior (sensitive one...

I Liked It.....
I'm actually quite suprised to see all the criticisms of this movie. I feel obligated to briefly respond in its defense. I've been going through a phase (for reasons unknown) where my wife and I are almost exclusively renting horror videos. We saw this movie last night and I found it very scary and filled with a particular atmospheric that seems to only come from movies from the 60's and early 70's. There's something dated about the style, but it is also classic.

In this genre my favorites would be: "The Haunting" (the original); "The Legend of Hell House"; "Burnt Offerings" (starring Karen Black); "Phantasm" (albeit that's from 1978). I supppose the common denominator is that they are all of the haunted house motif. I mention these movies because I thought the "Night of the Dark Shadows" fit in with them quite well. I do agree that the editing was a little rough, but I didn't find it to detract in any major way. The...

Not as good as House of Dark Shadows, but still creepy!
In this, the second of two Dark Shadows movies spawned from the cult classic immortal TV series, storylines and character traits from the show are forgotten and a completely original story unravels. Whereas the original, House of Dark Shadows, capitalized on the popularity of the character of Barnabas Collins, this movie showcases the characters of Quentin Collins and Angelique. Unlike the original, this movie is NOT a vampire story, but rather a ghost story of mystery and intrigue. The result is an eery haunting tale of betrayal, murder, reincarnation, and ghostly possession.

Note to all fans of Barnabas or vampires in general, Jonathan Frid is NO WHERE to be seen here, as he declined to appear in any more Dark Shadows movies due to his being typecast. However, David Selby is back from the show as Quentin and gives a great performance. The beautiful ladies Kate Jackson (Tracy Collins) and Lara Parker (Angelique) are also great here. John Karlen and Nancy Barrett, fan...

A fine home-front spy mystery from 1941, with Alastair Sim
Wordy? A little. But this British home-front spy mystery from 1941 is also fine entertainment, reasonably exciting and features two first-rate performances by Alastair Sim as the suspicious Charles Dimble and 16-year-old George Cole as the 15-year-old London kid, Ronald, resourceful and energetic. Ronald thinks Sherlock Holmes is "the greatest man whatever lived" and is pretty good at deducing things. Bear in mind that Sim and his wife took Cole into their household when he was a boy and became Cole's foster parents. Sim saw to Cole's education. When Cole wanted to become an actor like Sim, Sim also saw to Cole's training. They appeared together in more than a dozen movies, not as a team but as two skilled comic actors.

Pushing Daisies: Cast & Creators Live at the Paley Center

Bad. Very Bad. Whack It. Touch It. Touch It Again So It Will Stay Dead!
When I started this, I thought "I wonder if there's something for "Northern Exposure". If there is, I hope it's nothing like this. When you think of everything "Pushing Daisies" is, presuming you're a fan, of course; this is not it. The moderator is someone from E! Entertainment, an awkward, gawky woman who seems like a confusion of a drag queen and Sarah Palin, in a black dress and red dominatrix heels; who is so remarkably untalented she didn't memorize her opening statement and thus had to read it at the podium, looking down at it on camera as if she were a high schooler doing a report. She's no Terri Gross or Opra.

The panel, composed of 9 adult members of the cast, and producers, minus Digby and Swoozie Kurtz, then came out one at a time, and sat all to the presenter's left, in one long, awkward line. What follows, for as long as I could stand it, is a degree of Hollywood brown nosing that was painful even by the usual Hollywood standards...

Beautiful
This cast just seem like the greatest people and as though they have the greatest love for each other, and it just shines through in this DVD. I recommend for anyone who likes the show or any of the people in it, or Bryan Fuller, or even just the TV process.

Horrible Moderator
The moderator was extremely annoying, kept playing with her hair. I gave up after 5 minutes. I wanted to see the cast not her.

Seven Blood Stained Orchids

Decent Giallo for euro-trash fanatics
This 1971 giallo from Umberto Lenzi has never been released in the US in any form until this welcome Shriek Show release. The film itself is somewhat average as far as giallos go - the cinematography is nice, there's a black-gloved killer, some violent murder scenes (one with a power drill!), and some nudity to spice things up ---- but the mystery itself is pretty substandard and doesn't really have much punch. I also guessed the killer the first time that character appeared on screen - maybe I've just seen too many of these things.

Still, if you're a giallo fanatic or euro trash junkie, this disc is a no-brainer and you need to buy it. The anamorphic transfer looks great (bar some minor EE and shimmering around vertical lines or plaid clothing) and there's another great score by Riz Ortolani that will have you groovin' in no time. Extras include a 10 minute interview with Lenzi and a short interview with one of the female victims. Plus, the trailer and one for "Spasmo" and...

Beautiful babes and lots of style
Good god, I love Media Blasters! Every time you turn around, these guys are unleashing yet another depraved classic from years gone past. It seems that most of the stuff they release are Japanese anime flicks, a genre I haven't gotten into in a serious way yet, but they also make sure to release tons of gooey gorefests that send horror fans into paroxysms of joy. And they go out of their way (usually) to stuff the disc with plenty of supplemental materials like trailers, interviews, and commentaries. That doesn't sound like a big deal since lots of DVDs today contain extras, but it's a lot easier to find someone like Oliver Stone than it is to uncover the whereabouts of Ruggero Deodato or Umberto Lenzi. Heck, these guys actually locate cult favorites like George Eastman and Ivan Rassimov in order to interview them on camera! If you love films that delve deep into the inner recesses of shock cinema, Media Blasters is the place for you. Thanks to these guys, we can finally watch Lenzi's...

SUPERB!
SEVEN BLOOD-STAINED ORCHIDS is a close second to Argento's excellent DEEP RED as my favorite giallo! Directed with flair and tension by Umberto Lenzi, who was best known for CANNIBAL FEROX/MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY, EATEN ALIVE, and NIGHTMARE CITY, ORCHIDS tells the story of a killer who murders women in all kinds of gruesome ways (bludgeoning, drowning, strangling, and power-drilling) and leaves a silver half-moon locket in their hands. One victim (Uschi Glass) survives her attack and, together with her husband (Antonio Sabato), she finds a connection between herself and the other victims: They were all at the seaside hotel that she once managed. And the locket belonged to a guest that was also there one day.

To reveal anymore about SEVEN BLOOD-STAINED ORCHIDS would be unfair, as this film requires very little foreknowledge as possible. The story is engrossing from beginning to end, the performances are great, and the murder sequences rank up there with anything Bava or Argento...

Great Western
If you love old Westerns, and I have been on a Rex Bell kick recently... this is a great film. Don't expect major studio production quality. This kind of independent studio created Westerns in the 1930s as if they were shot in someone's back yard. But they are fun and Rex Bell is a great actor -- not the caliber of John Wayne, but an enjoyable Western nonetheless.

Community: Cast & Creators Live at the Paley Center

Chevy's ego destroys the set again
First let me say, I'm a huge fan of Community. I've watched every season at least five times.

I was really looking forward to hearing intriguing information about the cast, their relationships, and the history/origins of the show. Unfortunately, this video doesn't reveal much. Instead, this panel proves what any dedicated Community fan already knows.

Throughout the entire video, Chevy was constantly trying to be the center of attention. I really wanted to hear what these great actors had to say; but it was difficult to concentrate with all the "laughter" stemming from Chevy's attempt at physical comedy, his constant interruptions. You can tell that the Russo brothers were getting a bit upset in the earlier parts of the video.

Someone needed to explain to Chevy that this wasn't a stand up comedy act- it's a panel designed to give the fans a new perspective about the show. Don't get me wrong, I love Chevy as an actor. But his actions have ultimately...

Great Behind The Scenes Look at Community
Thank you, Paley Center, for sharing that Producer Dan Harmon was actually in a community college at age 32. After watching this DVD, the show's storylines are even better and the characters feel like real people. I love live discussions like this because they make you feel like you're part of the fun. I've watched a lot of bad behind-the-scenes clips that are boring because the producers just sit there and drone on about the show. I also loved how Dan Harmon and Joe Russo described picking each actor. They share a lot of funny stories that cut right to the point of creating good TV. Chevy Chase's crazy antics on stage are hilarious too! Thumbs up on this DVD.

community cast
Great show, great cast! Chevy Chase has still got it! Ken Jeong is the funniest Korean alive! Too bad Alison Brie couldn't be there though!

The Young and the Restless 35th Anniversary: Cast & Creators Live at the Paley Center

"A True Collector's Item"
In 2008 CBS television and the Paley Center for TV celebrated the remarkable milestone of the 35th Anniversary of daytime's #1 rated show "The Young and the Restless". Having been at the top of the U.S. Nielsen Ratings list since the middle of 1988 (24 years!!!) is something no other television show has ever done. For every single week no other serial has ever surpassed this remarkable achievement so it's with great fanfare the stars of the series took time to be on a panel to discuss the ups and downs in Genoa City. Among the stars are Jeanne Cooper (the longest-lasting member of the cast since late 1973, Jess Walton, Melody Thomas-Scott, Joshua Murrow, Peter Bergman and Michelle Stafford, most of whom are all Emmy winners.

The cast also takes questions from the audience at the end.

This is a gem to own if your a fan of this fantastic serial.

A fun look at Y&R
This panel discussion is a fun look at Y&R. While I would have preferred a different mix on the panel, it was a witty as well as informative exchange. This was my first ever VoD purchase and went off without a hitch.

The Young & Restless 35th anniversary
Very interesting to see the show's characters in "real life". Interactions among the cast very enjoyable to watch.. We watched it from Amazon Prime on our Roku

Saving Grace: Cast & Creators Live at the Paley Center

Not enough dialogue with the rest of the cast
I loved this series. I love Holly Hunter. I watched every episode from the beginning. What I was expecting from this gathering was a lot of interaction with ALL members of the cast. After about 30 minutes, I had to stop watching. The moderator spends most of the time talking with the creator of Saving Grace. There is some interaction with Holly Hunter. There is maybe one question to each member of the cast. I love Kenneth Johnson and Bailey Chase. As of 30 minutes in, they had both spoken once. This must have been the moderator's first time at moderating.

I was disappointed.

Interesting but disappointing
Show is dominated by comments from Holly and Nancy. All other say nothing or virtually nothing. The "moderator" from Variety is an idiot. A 5 year old could come up with better questions.

My Friend Bernard

Dreadful
Forgettable characters, really confusing and random story line. The animation is lousy. The movie seems to be inspired by 'Harold and the magic crayon' (Sam is a little boy running aound in his PJ-s all the time...)- but while Harold is endearing and artistic, this movie is simply annoying...The 'action' is not engaging to the point that I am writing this review while the movie is still running in the background. This might be a show that could hold the attention of a toddler, but, on the other hand, it contains bits that I would find highly inappropriate for a toddler audience (some quite scary scenes, and questionable moments, like, for instance, the polar bear character killing a bunch of fish by farting into the water through a hole cut out in the ice). I am just not getting it...Please save your money and time, and go with something else for a family movie night.

Great for toddlers
I rented this movie from red box for my 3 year old he cried when we had to return it.I don't know exactly what caught his attention but he watched it over and over.He just loved Bernard.I would probably not suggest for a child over 5 years of age.I seen another review called it slow well for toddlers that is not a bad thing they get more understanding of the movie verses a show like spongebob that is way to fast and they can't even tell you what happened the movie. We will be preordering.

Great for younger kids!
This may not be for older kids, but our 3 and 4 year old boys were belly laughing through the entire movie. It is pretty cute too. The characters don't talk; it's all action with the occasional bit of voice over narration (like Shaun the Sheep, Wallace and Grommet, or similar). Our kids LOVED it!

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

S-a-n-t-a C-l-a-u-s, Hooray for "Santy" Claus
It's the kookiest Christmas ever when Santa Claus is kidnapped by Martians in this "you have to see it to believe it" Christmas "classic." Maybe you've seen this movie hilariously skewered on Mystery Science Theater 3000, but you have to watch it on its own to truly appreciate it. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is just so bad that I can't help but love it, and that explains why I am giving this deservedly one-star movie four stars. The Martian get-ups are more ridiculous than Marvin the Martian's normal attire, the sets redefine the very definition of cheap, the acting is over-the-top and generally horrible, and Santa is - well, he's just a little bit weird, if you ask me. Every time the guy starts in with his distinctive laughing (usually for no apparent reason), I am reminded of the fact that Satan is spelled with the same letters as Santa.

Things aren't going so well on Mars. It's bad enough that the Martians are all colored a ridiculous shade of...

The best version on DVD.
This DVD from Intermedia (Woodhaven), is the best version on DVD. The print quality used is much better that that used on other DVD's.

A Jolly Yuletide Classic
Yeah, "It's a Wonderful Life" is a pretty good movie. However, the movie I joyfully watch every Christmas is about martians who, lacking a Santa Claus to bring joy to martian kids, kidnap Santa from Earth, along with two children. "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" is almost sublime in its badness, and with painted-green martials in skintight suits, a Santa with a lewd chuckle instead of a "Ho Ho Ho," incredible wooden acting by the cast (one of whom is Pia Zadora), unspeakable special effects, and a horrible theme song, it is a masterpiece of the so-bad-it's-good school of film. Just TRY getting the theme song out of your head.
The DVD from Laserlight looks exactly as one would expect it - awful. The supersaturated colour scheme has not aged well, and looks very grainy. There are many scratches, but that only adds to the film's strange charm. Unfortunately, the first fifteen seconds or so of the film's opening credits are not on this DVD, depriving...

Cougar Town: Cast & Creators Live at the Paley Center

100% Hysterical Fun
I've been a huge Scrubs fan for years, but when Cougar Town first started I only heard bad things about it, so I didn't watch...until a friend of mine bought me this DVD because she knew I loved Bill Lawrence.

No lie, this panel discussion turned me into a Cougar Town devotee! Before you go all hater, hear me out. Watching Courtney Cox, Christa Miller, and Bill Lawrence talk about the show and how it quickly evolved from something cliché into something amazing convinced me to give it a second chance. Even from this DVD you can tell how much they love the show, but more importantly how much they love each other!

It was so funny to hear Bill Lawrence make fun of Courtney during the questions, but at the same time really explain what they are going for with Cougar Town - showing the importance of adult friendship. I would never have gotten interested in the show if it wasn't for the Paley Center, so I guess I owe them a big thanks.

Cougar Town
It was fun but was disappointed that Busy Phillips was not there. Enjoyed the banter between the actors and the creator. Was surprised at how quiet some of the stars were.

Jeez that moderator is bad
This comes off as pretty amateurish as the camera is way too far behind when something happens and you miss a lot of comments with the mikes they provide but the topper is the host who has no sense of what to ask or when to let something go or follow up on other things....miserable. Could have been better in more capable hands.

Southland: Cast & Creators Live at the Paley Center

Southland best cop show ever.
This is an interview of the creators and several cast members of "S0UTHLAND", probably the best cop show on TV. The only one that comes close is "Police Story" done in the late 70's early 80's. Police story actually had Joseph Waumbaugh, a real cop as its creator. "Southland" had 2 of its creators at this interview and the most important one was missing. Ann Biderman. I really would like hear from her. I also would like to have heard how they used "street people" to play some of the parts. I became a fan in the last 2 seasons. However, I am going to make time to see he first 2 seasons.

Southland
It's good to see the characters in their street clothes, you get a better sense of who they are when you watch the show.

love the show
Nice showing to see the stars talk about the show. talk about the show just sit back and relax while they speak.
